Kharzan was frozen, his extremities transformed into ice statues that pulsed with purple pain where purification fought against abyssal corruption. But his claws held Selphira’s spear firmly embedded in his flesh, and his monstrous smile stretched across the three mouths that "adorned" his face.
The crystalline prison that should have meant his defeat had become a stalemate, his supernatural strength allowing him to maintain his grip even while most of his body remained immobilized.
"Did you think it would be so easy?" he growled, vapor emanating from his wounds where pure ice met corrupted blood.
The purification hurt him, but his 6 beasts and he were now one entity. They couldn’t be purified so easily while regenerating each other retroactively.
The corruption had deep roots that would require more than surface cleansing to eliminate.
Selphira pulled on her spear, but although her muscles gradually gave their maximum, she discovered she didn’t have more raw physical strength than Kharzan. It wasn’t her specialty, and Kharzan’s body multiplied his integrated strength to the beast’s base, not his own.
It was frustrating... centuries of skill and technique meant nothing if she couldn’t overcome the brute physics of the situation.
Selphira’s muscles tensed with maximum effort, but the spear with which she wanted to cut off his head remained firmly trapped.
Valdris saw what was happening and immediately directed all his bear’s power toward melting the ice that imprisoned Kharzan.
The veteran general didn’t need instructions. His experience told him exactly what needed to be done.
His Pyroclast-Shell Bear charged toward the pair locked in combat, its shell radiating heat waves that made the air itself distort.
