Chapter 266: Strange Vehicle
As the sky darkened, a chaotic mix of electric lights and candle flames illuminated Old Car Territory.
Not every shack here had electricity. Tangled wiring connected to several dilapidated generators; just maintaining water and power for the entire camp cost a massive sum.
The night was festive. Crowds packed the muddy streets, dividing up a massive pot of hot soup boiled from a whole pig in front of the butcher's stall. Those who had already gotten a bowl smacked their lips, while those still waiting shouted impatiently.
Grins broke across grime-stained faces, revealing rotting teeth and makeshift replacements patched with brass, alloy, and other scrap materials.
Gu He, Lorna, and Pandora watched the commotion from a distance. Broken Doorknob walked over, sipping from a bowl of soup, and asked if they wanted some. Old Car had given orders that they could have as much as they liked.
Broken Doorknob was secretly a little worried, though. These three looked exactly like the kind of people with bottomless stomachs.
"Uh, no need..." Gu He had no desire to drink that thoroughly unsanitary soup.
"Broken Doorknob, we eat like kings every day in the Kabukicho area. We won't take your share." Lorna had no interest either.
They didn't want any, and no one cared anyway—in fact, everyone preferred they didn't. Broken Doorknob breathed a sigh of relief.
