Chapter 261: Old Car
A freezing wind battered the dilapidated streets in this ocean of garbage, making the people's clothes look even more ragged.
Several brawny men hoisted up a freshly slaughtered pig, hanging it upside down from a rusty iron rack in front of the butcher stand to bleed it out. Blood poured from a gaping hole in the pig's head, dripping steadily into an iron bucket on the ground.
The junkmen threw on slaughterhouse aprons stained black with grime, laughing and joking as they prepared to gut the carcass.
"Raise pigs? The people here can't even get enough to eat. Should we chop you up to feed them? Take a look around. This is Muddy Pond."
"You came over from Dongtu Street, right? Why don't you raise them over there?"
"Since you didn't want to help butcher it, you aren't getting a drop of soup when this pig is boiled."
The men kept busy, mocking the Dongtu Educator as they worked.
When the pig's head was blown open by an air gun moments earlier, blood had sprayed everywhere. The moral educator, who had been standing right next to it, was splattered from head to toe. Even the lenses of his glasses were coated in a bloody film.
"Gentlemen, pigs do not eat what we humans eat," the moral educator said, wiping his glasses clean. "Muddy Pond has swill dumps where waste from the Acropolis District is discarded. Pigs can stomach it, but it would make people vomit and fall ill. We could haul some of that rotting waste back to raise pigs, and by next year, everyone would have more meat to eat."
