Chapter 150: Rat Swarm
By the time Gu He flew to the wilderness area where the Mutants had been spotted, the sky had already gone pitch black, and stars were beginning to appear.
Under the cover of night, the wasteland felt even more desolate, primitive, and vast. Many things from the old era had vanished without a trace, and the ancient trees that had witnessed multiple epochs were now decaying and withered, unable to outlast the cruelty of the Seventh Epoch.
"This is it, right? I recognize those trees," Gu He said. He had already put on his night-vision goggles.
To maintain enough stealth, the Legion didn't turn on any searchlights, relying solely on the starlight and the faint gleam from the feathers of the Silver Wings.
The night-vision goggles and automatic rifles were military gear from the Revival Society tribe. Through salvaging and trading, the wilderness tribes all kept some munitions on hand—these were their sharpest weapons to strike back against the Bank.
Lorna, Vivian, and Chiba-Gibson were all watching the nocturnal scene through Gu He's night-vision view.
"Yeah, this is the place," Lorna urged. "Fly closer. We're too high up; I can't see clearly."
Gu He gently flapped the wings, cautiously descending toward the dead forest until they all spotted eerie, darting shadows on the ground near the trees. Several porcupine-like Opportunistic Species were scurrying through the woods.
"They look so interesting," Vivian remarked as soon as she got a clear look. "Are those dicks on their backs?"
