Chapter 122: To the Factory
A dense torrent of people surged through Roppo Street in the night rain.
Because Roppo Street boasted the highest concentration of kabuki theaters and related industries, kabuki performers made up a large part of the crowd. Beside them marched a massive contingent of the low-tech tribe—tattooed, clad in tattered linen, and gripping crude weapons.
"The more technology overexpands, the greater the divide between the classes becomes."
The low-tech crowd advanced slowly around a convoy of pickup trucks. Sound systems mounted on the vehicles blared through the streets, alternating between music and Jane preaching the low-tech philosophy:
"High-tech has become a murder weapon for the megacorps to slaughter us! They have satellites, missiles, aircraft, and cannons... And what do we have? High-tech smothers our anger, leaving us with nothing but numbness and dread!"
"There is no more revolution! Never again!"
"In this high-tech world, we have no future!"
Amid the vibrant, distinctly Kabukicho procession, the low-tech followers stood out like a stubborn blight, impossible to ignore. Suddenly, the convoy's sound systems switched to the anthems of the Bloodline Movement—songs that had once echoed through every street in the city.
They had played many tracks since the march began—low-tech songs, Voodoo City songs—and now it was the bloodliners' turn.
