Chapter 778. Secret Weapon for an Emergency
The Primeval Scortaur retaliated as soon as it destroyed Xou Liang’s bladed hurricane. Its tail shot toward Xou Liang, who narrowly parried the sharp stinger using his mace. Xou Liang knew that the tail could lengthen during an attack, so he was prepared.
The winds around Xou Liang’s feet swirled, giving him a speed boost. He rushed as the Primeval Scortaur retracted its tail. His mace also had winds whirling around it. They increased the speed of his swing.
His mace collided with the Primeval Scortaur’s mantis scythe. The impact sent him crashing into the wall. However, he didn’t completely lose the exchange. The wind that enhanced his mace not only increased the mace’s speed but also caused an explosion upon impact. The explosion produced violent winds that forced the Scortaur to stagger back.
Amon used White Slash when the Primeval Scortaur staggered. White glimmers flashed around the beast. Cut wounds with spurting blood appeared in the Scortaur’s human body where the light flashed through. As for its scorpion body, which was covered by shells, it endured the attacks.
Amon activated the Elder God Veil at the same time he used White Slash. Dense shadows covered his body. The four dark tentacles on his back lashed out. Before they could touch the Primeval Scortaur, its mantis scythes slashed in crossing flashes.
The dark tentacles were cut. To do that meant the scythes could pierce through Amon’s shadow suit. Amon didn’t dare be careless. He conjured his Alpha Flying knives, which clashed with the Scortaur’s scythes.
The Primeval Scortaur used its tail when Amon was busy blocking its scythes. The ambush didn’t catch Amon off guard. He already vanished before the stinger arrived. He flashed all around the beast while leaving swordlights. More cut wounds were inflicted on the Scortaur’s human body.
Xou Liang rejoined the fight. His mace clashed repeatedly with the Scortaur’s mantis scythes while Amon continued to flash around it and land sneak attacks. None of their hits appeared to have any serious effect. The Scortaur’s human body continued to heal rapidly each time it was wounded, while the defense of its scorpion body was incredibly tough.
Amon flying knives were embedded deep inside the Primeval Scortaur’s human body. That happened when Amon saw a chance when Xou Liang rejoined the fight. Each knife struck what should have been the vital part. One even pierced into the back of the Scortaur’s human head with the blade’s edge protruding out of its face. Even then, the spirit beast didn’t seem affected.
Amon understood then. The human body of the Primeval Scortaur was like a lizard’s tail. It was meant as a distraction. Its prey would focus their attacks on its human body, which appeared vulnerable, while in reality, any attack that hit its human body didn’t hurt it in the slightest. Even the blood that spurted out was not its true blood. Its true body was the scorpion’s part.
"Focus on its scorpion body!" Amon told Xou Liang.
Xou Liang had also caught on to this point. However, things were still difficult for them even after they learn the truth. The Primeval Scortaur’s shell was extremely durable. They knew because they had hit it before. None of the hits left any marks.
Amon had lost control of his Alpha Flying Knives. The flesh of the Scortaur’s human body gripped the deeply embedded knives tightly. The power of his Flying Sword art was not strong enough to rip the knives out. He could only rely on the Moonfire Dagger. He approached the Primeval Scortaur from its flank using the Invisible Phantom Flash. He sent his dagger forward using the Xian Cloth and aimed it at what seemed like a tiny slit between the beast’s shells.
While his art gave him a speed that very few could keep up with, the Primeval Scortaur could still locate him when he approached. The spirit beast responded not by defending itself, but by countering it with an attack of its own.
Its tail shot at Amon just as Amon’s dagger shot at it.
The Primeval Scortaur’s shells tightened when Amon’s dagger arrived. The dagger failed to slip through the crack between the shells. It bounced off after hitting the hard shell.
Amon tilted his body to dodge the Scortaur’s tail when it arrived. To his surprise, the tail could change direction even at high speed. He managed to avoid a direct hit thanks to his sense of danger, but the stinger still grazed him.
The stinger cut through his shadow suit and left a long bloody trail on his right chest. He didn’t worry. He had immunity to poison. He was about to resume his attack when he felt a loud thump in his chest. He knew right away something was wrong with his body. He quickly jumped away just as he felt his body losing strength. When he landed, his legs gave in, and he dropped to the ground.
He felt his body temperature rise, and he had difficulty breathing. He couldn’t stand back up.
Amon studied his body. He could feel something invading his system. It was no doubt the Primeval Scortaur’s toxin. He was surprised to learn that the toxin could still affect him. He thought that after adopting the Poison Blood Infusion Method, he was immune to all poisons. It appeared this was not the case.
He understood then that there was no such thing as complete immunity. What appeared to be immune was because it hadn’t encountered something stronger. He might be immune to all the poisons that existed in Aetheria, but not in this lower realm. The Primeval Scortaur was categorized as the Lower Primordial Beast largely due to its deadly toxin. In terms of speed and strength, it was only slightly better than a Higher Mythical Beast.
Although Amon was not immune to the Primeval Scortaur’s toxin, his mutated body was resistant enough. Even now, he could feel his body fighting off the toxin. Given time, his blood would neutralize the toxin. Sadly, though, the Primeval Scortaur didn’t have the intention to give him such leniency.
The Primeval Scortaur let out a mocking laugh as it beat Xou Liang back with another swing of its scythe. It then came toward Amon, who was powerless on the ground.
Xou Liang panicked. If Amon died, he was sure he wouldn’t survive this place alone. He threw his mace forward. Using his arcane art that conjured a hurricane, his mace spun with the winds as it headed toward the Primeval Scortaur.
The Primeval Scortaur didn’t even look back. Its tail slapped the mace away and dispelled the hurricane. The tail then shot toward Xou Liang.
Thanks to the distance, Xou Liang could jump out of harm’s way. Otherwise, he would have suffered the same fate as Xin Wa.
The Primeval Scortaur never stopped walking toward Amon, even when its tail fought Xou Liang. It held its scythes up, ready to cut Amon to size.
"Brother! Let me help you!" Lin Li offered.
Since Yuka resided inside his black space ring, Amon never left a window inside so she couldn’t perceive what was outside. This was his way of preventing her from exiting the ring. Though Lin Li also couldn’t see the outside world, her mental link with Amon was advanced enough to let her share his senses.
He refused her offer. The Primeval Scortaur’s toxin was too potent. Lin Li would die immediately if its stinger hit her. Amon didn’t want her to die because she was too useful. Her ability to disguise herself had helped him out numerous times. It would be a pity to lose her.
He also didn’t ask for Yuka’s aid because he didn’t trust her enough not to turn on him. As for his puppet army, it was too crammed to place them in this cave. They would also only be cannon fodder against the Scortaur.
"Well, this certainly counts as an emergency," Amon uttered when the Primeval Scortaur arrived.
Something large materialized between Amon and the Primeval Scortaur. It blocked the Scortaur’s scythes from hitting Amon. Because it appeared abruptly, the Scortaur had no time to react. The thing slammed its fist down into the Scortaur’s back. The Primeval Scortaur was driven into the ground. The impact’s force caused the ground to crack.
What Amon just summoned was a large battle puppet. It used to be the giant battle puppet that guarded Yuka. After Yuka left her prison, the giant puppet lost its purpose. Amon gave it to Zee Whang to be improved.
With the resources of the lower realm, Zee Whang could build better battle puppets than he could ever build in Aetheria. All this time, he was forced to experiment on Hai Di’s assignment. After being freed by Amon, he could return to his passion, which was tinkering with battle puppets. He welcomed the project.
With the resources supplied by Amon, the giant puppet was much stronger than before. Its grade remained a high-tier runic because that was the limit of its power source, but it was at the peak of its limit. It was stronger than Amon’s previous Alpha and Beta Puppet. This battle puppet could be considered to have a strength rivaling the strongest Peak Lord Stage. Amon renamed this puppet as the Titan Battle Puppet.
