Ch. 148 - Cultural Festival Latter Half 8 - Students' Presentations and Family Reactions [Different Perspective]
[Middleton]
Looking at the boy explaining the magic, I opened my mouth to the person nearby.
"...Who is that boy?"
"Ha... it seems that boy is the son of the Stone Baron family, from the Kingdom of Karvan."
"Kingdom of Karvan..."
Repeating the words of the royal guard, I focused my attention back to the presentation. Having spoken the last words before the presentation, that boy must be the key person in this presentation.
However, I hadn't heard his name much.
"Well, let's see what kind of presentation it will be."
I wondered if I'll see something interesting. Thinking that, I put my hand to my chin and hid my smile.
"... Thunder Jade, Electric Ball."
Dean muttered that and activated his magic. Immediately after, a small water sphere appeared in front of Dean's hand. That water sphere seemed to be expanding while rotating rapidly. In a short time, it grew bigger and bigger.
And, before I knew it, one or two streaks of purple light had begun to run through it. I could hear surprised voices from around me, but my consciousness was fixed on that purple electricity as if it were sewn in place.
A bursting sound could be heard all the way over here. The water sphere at Dean’s hand was already about the size of a person's head, and the purple electricity was constantly flashing.
"... Electric Ball."
While my eyes were drawn to Dean’s magic, Rox and Cote, who were standing beside him, had also completed their magic chanting. Immediately, a water sphere appeared just like Dean's, but it grew more slowly than before.
It was clear to anyone that Dean's magic was faster.
Around the time the two water spheres began to emit a faint purple light, the other students around them also started completing the chanting of their lightning magic.
One by one, one after another, the magic took shape, and in the end, the venue was enveloped in a purple flickering light.
"O-oh... this is a greater result than I imagined."
I had thought that an unorthodox magician like Aoi would bring a new breeze to Fiddiq Academy. But, I hadn't expected her to show such results in such a short time.
To think that everyone would manifest the new magic...
"...I wonder what it will be like a year or two from now. It might be good to ask the students in that place if they have any intention of serving my country. Especially that boy named Dean."
"So, you are going to approach them first. Since a Duke has come from the Kingdom of Karvan, it will be easy to talk with them."
Rhea replied with a smile. Certainly... if they were nobles who didn’t have important positions, they might consider serving our country. However, unless they were a knight baron or higher, the ties of blood usually bound the family to one country.
Most nobles protected their relatives and raise their achievements to make their sons and brothers nobles when they get promoted. Because of these relationships, even if a noble didn’t have an important position or a territory, it was difficult to move to another country.
But if the title was low, it's worth approaching them. If it went well, it might be possible to bring them into our country.
"...Well, I guess I'll try it even if it's a long shot."
I muttered that, and a corner of my mouth turned up.
[Isaac]
Even though he's my own son, he had a dignified attitude. He's praised as a well-raised child not only by people of our own country, but also by nobles from other countries, and, without flattery, I had to agree with that.
Cote had always been a child who paid close attention to his surroundings since he was little. He didn't just observe, but continued to watch carefully until he understood the meaning, and eventually mades it his own. That was the same for noble manners, ways of thinking, and etiquette, but it was also the same for swordsmanship and magic.
Especially when we hired an excellent teacher, I think he grew at a terrifying pace. See, hear, and put into practice. If accurate advice from the teacher was added there, he absorbed knowledge at several times the pace of ordinary people.
I thought it was natural for him to enter Fiddiq Magic Academy, and I didn't feel any discomfort when I heard that he was achieving particularly excellent results in the world's highest-ranked magic academy. My son must be a genius. That's my evaluation of Cote.
Therefore, when Cote gave the greeting at the beginning of the presentation, I thought that Cote was indeed the best among Aoi’s students. Although they were different ages, the children of influential figures from various countries such as Rox, Felter, and Hiram were also rumored to have high abilities, but when my son reaches the same age, he will surpass them.
I was looking at the venue with that kind of thought in my mind, but Cote's greeting was taken over by Rox. And, in the end, an unfamiliar boy came forward and explained the details of the magic he was about to perform.
Could it be that this boy has the highest skill? No, while it might be Rox, there's no way Cote would lose to a boy of that age...
While perplexed, I watched the boy's magic chanting. The chanting was completed faster than I had thought. Just as Aoi directly taught him, the explanation of the magic was at an outrageous level, but I couldn't imagine that the students would be able to use magic at that level.
My expectations were overturned in an instant.
In front of my eyes, there was a violently flickering purple lightning. Before I could even think if it was real, it kept getting bigger and bigger. I was astonished by that sight, and before I knew it, Cote and Rox had finished their magic chanting.
The two’s magic was also growing gradually, but it wasn't growing as quickly as that boy's. And, the other students, who started using their magic in turn, were the same.
It seems that, in regards to this lightning magic, that boy was one or two steps ahead.
Eventually, as the venue was enveloped in the light of intense lightning magic, the boy who activated the magic first interrupted his magic mid-way.
Except for the centre of the venue, the lightning magic still repeated intense flickers. In the midst of that, the boy began chanting a new magic.
