CH.752 Qualifying for my own Tournament
So today, I was making myself a new personality. And you might ask why? Do I need one for spying? Or maybe something else important to the world?
Nope. I need one because I want to play more Yugioh. So I want to qualify for my own tournament. But not as myself. Instead, I’ll make a new personality and have a soul copy play that part. That way, I can both play in the tournament and then be the final match.
And if my copy does make it all the way to the finals, I’ll just purposefully lose so that I don’t have to duel myself, because it really isn’t that fun.
But, because I didn’t want to cheat too much, I needed a custom qualifier. Well, kind of.
As you might remember, the qualifiers for the Sphere Field tournament are Yugioh puzzles. And since I made all of them, I know the answers to all of them.
So instead, I asked the girls to make a few each. I also invited Nir to make a couple, since he does know the rules and knows a handful of cards. Even a few HomeBase residents who know the rules made some.
That way, I wouldn't know the answers, or even the cards used and I’d actually experience them blind. And after I hopefully qualify, I can add all of these puzzles to the potential puzzles people might face when they try to qualify.
So after making sure the qualifiers would be fair, I had to make myself a personality to use. Luckily I have a skill with nearly unlimited possibilities.
I wanted to make something kind of unique, so I picked Arachne as the base. I then added in Butterfly-kin to get some butterfly wings onto my back. And naturally my winged Arachne was female.
Now, I didn’t used to be able to combine races like this. Actually, I kind of still can’t. Except that I can if I use a little cheat. The modifier race Artificial. With it, I can mix and match races, despite the fact that I can normally only have one Normal or Special Race active at the same time. With Artificial, I can have as many as I need, but it does get messy if I have too many.
But back to my butterfly arachne. She had Compound Eyes, like Butterfly-kin usually do. I gave her dark blue hair, and her spider body was black with some blue highlights. Also, she only had two hands despite the fact that multi-armed is super common among the Arachne. That is because she has wings. So instead of extra arms, she got wings. Those wings were a similar blue as her body's highlights, with some black supporting parts.
I made some colorful clothing for her out of spider silk. Basically a dress with an open back for her wings, and I also included a covering for her lower body. Arachne don’t usually cover their lower bodies, only their upper bodies, but some still do. And I decided that she would.
That is because I also decided to make her a hairy spider. You know, one covered in those hairs some spiders are. And she is a little shy about it since most Arachne don’t have that. Actually, I haven’t seen or heard of a single Arachne having hairs like that.
As for her name, I went with Myrphe. No reason really. I just threw some random words at a wall and mixed them into that.
So now that I had my Myrphe appearance figured out, time to go see what kind of puzzles were made for me.
My qualifiers began with the explanation, but I knew that already since I wrote it, even if Laura is the one who read it aloud.
Now, in theory there could be up to ten puzzles if you were good enough. Completing 10 was the perfect score, but some of the later ones were almost impossible.
That is because in them, you had to summon SF Numbers using the Sphere Field. Now, naturally I made sure you could get the one you need with the cards you have, but in a few of the puzzles, you basically had to loop monsters back to your hand to make sure you’d get the SF Number you’d need, and it would always be the fourth SF Number you summon.
It was a challenge you had to play perfectly in order to win, because even a single wasted card meant that you wouldn’t get to the Number that could win you the duel on that turn. You could still pass the puzzle without doing it, you just wouldn’t get the max score.
Now to my puzzles. Starting with an easy one. Hopefully. If you actually did the qualifiers, the first two are quite simple to the point that a beginner should be able to solve them. But since these ones weren’t made by me, I’m not so sure.
Tahlia did order them to be from the easiest to the most difficult, but these might still be a challenge.
The first one I got was one designed by Wilma. The board state was simple. Both players had 8000 life points, my opponent had 3 cards in hand, I had six and it was the main phase of my turn.
The cards on the field were the indestructible Sphere Field Field Spell and 1 Great Maju Garzett with 10,000 attack. Rocket Arrow Express was in my opponent’s GY, showing how the Great Maju Garzett had been summoned with that high of an attack.

In my hand were Gogogo Golem, Gogogo Ghost, Gogogo Giant, Rank-Up-Magic Barian's Force, Magic Cylinder and Oni-Gami Combo.

I then checked my extra deck and it had four monsters. Number 44: Sky Pegasus; Number 85: Crazy Box; Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon and Number 57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon. As well as a custom card. Number C44: Chaos Pegasus.

Now, I know you might want to know about Chaos Pegasus. Well, it is a Rank 5 Light Beast with 2500 attack and 2200 defense. It has an effect to attack directly, and if it has the OG Number 44 under it, it gets an additional effect. You can detach a material, choose a monster your opponent controls and then they either take damage equal to its attack stat, or that monster is destroyed and they take 1000 damage. Opponent’s choice which.
Alright. I think I get what Wilma wants me to do. Hopefully.
Now, the ‘obvious’ choice would be setting Gogogo Golem and Magic Cylinder, and then passing the turn, hoping that the opponent will attack into it. But there is no way that won’t end with you getting punched in the face by Great Maju Garzett that will have piercing damage courtesy of a card in the opponent’s hand.
So instead, something else needs to be done. Thunder Spark Dragon can get rid of Great Maju Garzett, but won’t let me go for the win this turn. Crazy Box can potentially destroy the monster as well. Number 44: Sky Pegasus can use its effect for 1000 damage, then it can be ranked up into Chaos Pegasus for 1000 more and the destruction of Great Maju Garzett.
But none of those options would let me end the duel this turn.
So instead, Tri-Head Dust Dragon. If I can summon it, it will have 10,100 attack and with Oni-Gami Combo, it would be able to attack twice. That is a kill on this turn unless my opponent has a Kuriboh or something in their hand. But I doubt it since that is the only way I think I can OTK this turn.
I just somehow need to summon the three material monster. Which I can’t do as easily as you might assume.
Sure the normal summon of Gogogo Giant can lead to 3 level 4 monsters on my field, but first I need to get both Ghost and Golem into my GY.
And the only way I know how to do that is by relying on the Sphere Field extra deck.
And since Wilma hopefully set up the order you get SF Numbers from the Sphere Field, this isn’t even relying on luck. This is relying on Wilma and her foresight.
So I overlaid the Gogogo Golem and Gogogo Ghost in my hand and Xyz summoned an SF Number. And by Wilma’s foresight, I got one of the worst Numbers, but one that was perfect for this situation. SF Number 56: Gold Rat. And I summoned it in defense position.

Now normally, this thing absolutely sucks. But for me, it was perfect. Because I could easily use its effect to get one of the materials to the GY.
I detached Gogogo Golem, drew a card and shuffled Magic Cylinder back to my deck. And in case you want to know, the card I drew was Monster Reborn, which I feel like is a hint left by Wilma.

I then played my Rank-Up-Magic Barian's Force, ranking the Gold Rat into SF Number C56: Platinum Rat. You know the deal. Rank 2, Light Beast with 1000 attack and 1200 defense.
It has the same effect as Gold Rat, except that you get to draw 2. And if you have Gold Rat as a material, you don’t even need to shuffle a card back into the deck. So a Pot of Greed in a monster. But with the ‘usual’ materials being 4 level 2 Light Beasts, it isn’t that easy to summon without using a Rank-Up-Magic. And at that point, you can have your Pot of Greed.
Which I used. I detached Gogogo Ghost from Platinum Rat and drew 2 cards.
I got Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Girl.

I just let them be. I don’t need them, unless this duel somehow goes on longer than I believe.
I normal summoned Gogogo Giant. I used its effect to bring back Gogogo Ghost. And its effect allowed me to summon Gogogo Golem. I then overlaid all 3 into Number 57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon, which gained the attack of Great Maju Garzett, getting to the 10,100 mark I mentioned earlier.
I then played Oni-Gami Combo, detached all the materials from it and moved to my battle phase. I attacked with my Dust Dragon twice, winning the first challenge with a perfect score.
I then went on to have more challenges. Lua made a challenge where I had to take down a few Vampires. Alice made one with Chronomaly. Unika’s actually used the aforementioned Chaos Pegasus along with a card that would allow it to use its effect as a quick effect, and another one that allowed it to use its effect multiple times per turn.
Janina put me against the Nordics. I didn’t use any Synchro monsters in my challenges, as they aren’t allowed in the tournament. But I never told the girls that, so Janina giving me the job of taking down all three of the Nordic Gods was allowed.
It wasn’t easy, but with some Sphere Field luck, I managed to do it.
And by the end of it, I had ‘perfectly’ solved 8 out of 10 puzzles. 1 I did beat, but not on the first turn and 1 I lost. That one was made by Einar and Eline and they managed to make a nice little trap I walked into. I guess the two that walk in the shadows know how to lay a trap, even to someone who thinks they can see everything.
