Chapter 179: Access Denied
Rory
"What?" She whispered, eyes and mouth open in clear shock. I let out a sigh as I gently helped her to her feet before holding her at arm’s length.
"You’ve hurt me countless times, over a man, over and over again. If I want to be friends with someone, I believe the person should trust me to some extent at least, and it’s been years between us, but you still don’t trust me, at least when it involves a man on your part. The same thing that happened in the past with Trevor, which I forgave you for, is still the same thing that happened with you and your new husband, at least something very similar. One would think you’d come to trust me more after the incident with Trevor, but I guess that just isn’t the case. And that’s why we can no longer be friends."
Her bottom lip wobbled as I spoke and I tried to ignore that as I continued. "Once again, I really do appreciate the fact that you willingly took me into your home even though I could have torn out to be a bad person . You trusted me blindly and I’ll never forget the help you rendered to me. Which is why I’ll be helping you. And you can come to me whenever you need help and I’ll help however I can. However, that’s gonna be the end of it. It can’t be more than that."
When I let go of her shoulders, she rushed to clutch my shirt. "Rory, please don’t do this." She whispered quietly, her cheeks wet with tears.
"I know I’m stupid and gullible but please, I beg of you, forgive me. It won’t happen again, I promise." She whispered desperately but I surged as I averted my face. My mind travelled back to the day of the wedding, the way she had loudly screamed at me like I was a stranger, she hadn’t even bothered to ask the reason for the ruckus, she had just gone ahead to accuse me of trying to ruin her wedding. That had felt really awful.
When I glanced back at her, my lips were in a thin line as she shook my head firmly before gently pulling her hands away from my shirt, and then I took a step back.
"Go home, Raya." I muttered and she sobbed again.
"I’ll send you more than enough money tonight. Use it to take care of yourself and your child, and stop trusting people too much on moving forward." I continued and her hands shook as she straightened her gown and tried to stop her hiccups.
"We don’t have a house anymore, that bastard took everything from me." She whispered, pain and regret obvious in her voice.
I patted my pockets for my phone and fished it out.
