Chapter 89: cat out of the bag pt.2

I was beyond shocked. I was flabbergasted.
Granted, I knew he’d one day find out and that I wouldn’t ever be able to keep that detail from forever, I hadn’t expected that it would be revealed today of all days.
I sat frozen, completely at a loss of what to say. It didn’t take me long to glance away from Jason’s intense gaze. My throat suddenly felt dry and I drank some water, but then I began to cough and Kenny helped me through it by gently patting my back.
"You okay, darling?" Grandma Nini called out and I nodded, knowing nothing would come out if I had attempted to speak. I could still feel Jason’s eyes on me and I made it my mission to avoid it throughout the rest of this dinner.
I exhaled slowly, feeling my hand shake a little around my fork. Kenny’s hand settled on my lap, squeezing a little as if giving me strength silently and I exhaled again.
"I didn’t know he had a child." Jason blurted out after about a minute and I cursed at myself internally. When I glanced up, I noticed he was staring at his grandma.
"Oh, honey. That’s because you stayed away for ages!" She reprimanded at first before continuing. "If you hadn’t, you’d have known my dear Rory this whole time. Rory is an angel, and he does have a child. An adorable son who’s incredibly smart and also cute." She explained and the love in her voice could easily be detected.
"Is that so?" Jason asked after a few minutes and grandma nini nodded eagerly.
"Yes! His name is Niko and he’s so smart, too smart for his age. He reminded me of you to be honest and that made me miss you more during that period he got birthed and I could remember calling you more frequently because I wanted to see you." She continued and with the way my heart was racing, there was no guarantee it wouldn’t soon fly out of my throat.
Jason briefly apologized to his grandma after that and as I stared down at my food, I felt like I was going to be sick. From the questions Jason was asking, it was like he was starting to put twos together.
