Chapter 293: You’re A Nobody
He sized her up as well. She was shorter than him and looked like a preteen.
Then from out of nowhere, a broad smile as bright as her clothes stretched on her lips. "Welcome, I’m Samantha Vlarie. Nice to meet you."
Xander was quite taken aback by her sudden change of expression, but he wouldn’t deny she was a cute little girl. He managed to force his lips to stretch to the corners of his cheeks as well and hers faltered instantly.
"You should try to smile more often," she commented. "I’m Bruce Vlarie’s daughter," she added, which didn’t catch Xander off guard this time around since he already guessed it right.
"Samantha." And their heads whipped to the source of the voice in unison. "You should let the young gentleman rest."
The man was clad in a butler suit with white hair that made him look like the long-lost cousin of Santa Claus. His face was all wrinkly which was proof of his age, and he seemed to be much older than Bruce himself.
"I only wanted to welcome him to the house," Samantha defended herself.
The butler smiled at the girl before his gaze fell on Xander.
"Mr. Vlarie would like you to have breakfast in the garden so you can get some fresh air," he informed. "Since you’re ready...." His eyes ran through the clothes Xander was wearing first before he continued, "...please follow me." Then he left.
Xander silently shrugged before he followed the butler, while Samantha walked by his side.
They stepped into the sprawling garden, where flowers bloomed in a vibrant tapestry of colors. The air was thick with their sweet, heady fragrance, each breath carrying hints of rose, lavender, and jasmine. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a warm glow over the petals and giving the entire garden an almost enchanted beauty.
