"And then what happened?" Selene asked her father, with curiosity laced in her tone.
Jeffrey sighed before he continued, "Thomas nearly lost his life. Thankfully, our fathers asked help from the other mafia gangs to help rescue him from Bruce’s clutches. After he was saved, my father left the Wallace family with a warning, never for them to cross paths with us again. Bruce also died."
When Jeffrey finished narrating the story, Selene finally understood where he was coming from. The pain of being betrayed by someone you always believed was family left a deep, burning scar—one that lingered no matter how much time passed.
Selene had experienced it also, with the Harrison family, the family she thought she was a part of.
Sighing, Selene placed her hand on Jeffrey’s, caressing it with a soft smile on her lips.
"I completely understand where you are coming from Dad. But, is there no way we can fix this broken friendship?" She asked hopefully.
She could see in Jeffrey’s eyes that he truly cherished Thomas and saw him as a brother, rather than a friend. But he was framed by that friend. The betrayal was brutal.
She noticed Jeffrey and Nora shared a look but swallowed their words.
"I will think of a way for the two families to come together, Father. If you allow it, we should have a family dinner," she suggested, her eyes wide with hope.
