Chapter 158: The Past Is Past
Selene frowned at Xavier, her head throbbing painfully. She was certain that the Wallace and Clark families never crossed paths, so why was Ezekiel Clark at the hospital? Why would Xavier refer to him as an acquaintance?
"What?" Selene asked with confusion written in her expression.
"Excuse me," Ezekiel excused himself and left the ward. "Let’s go," he informed Kael and together, they left the ward before any more questions would be asked.
"What just happened?" Selene wondered. She flinched in pain when her head throbbed hard again. She tried to sit up properly on the bed but immediately regretted that action when she felt a sharp pain electrocute her entire body, which led her to yelp in pain.
The doctor checked her vital organs, the nurse changed her bandage, then they left to give the couple some time to talk.
"Are you hungry? I will go get you some food quickly," said Xavier. He was extremely relieved Selene was finally awake.
Selene gave him a warm smile before she shook her head, "I’m not hungry at all, but I do feel sleepy," she said. "But I don’t want to sleep now." She gave him a pointed look, knowing he would immediately urge her to go ahead and rest.
The car crash was fatal and it was only by a stroke of luck that she survived.
"Where’s Jake?" She asked, suddenly remembering her driver.
"He’s in the room next to yours. He didn’t sustain severe injuries and would recover in no time," Xavier replied.
Selene nodded in understanding. She made a mental note to check on him later.
