Chapter 138: Ritual
In a dimly lit room, a man sat in a chair, facing a computer with a bright light casting sharp reflections on his eyeglasses. As he typed away on the keyboard, the screen’s glow illuminated his face and reflected off his lenses.
"Do you know who broke the barrier?" Xavier asked Maxwell. After receiving a notification that the barrier had been breached by an unknown intruder, Xavier had tasked Maxwell with uncovering the culprit. Unfortunately, Ezekiel’s men had left no trace behind, making the investigation nearly impossible.
Also, unfortunately for Ezekiel, he still couldn’t find any pictures of Anastasia even after hacking into her profile.
"I still can’t find anything. The people who did this know their stuff," Maxwell replied after yet another futile attempt. He removed his glasses, sighed, and rubbed his eyes. "Does Anastasia have any enemies? It would take a highly skilled hacker or a group of them to breach this level of security and identify you," he asked.
It was the first time someone had been able to crash their barrier. And from the way Maxwell was looking at things, it could only be one of Xavier’s enemies. But since he had too many, he couldn’t pinpoint one person.
Also, the fact that the enemy was looking into Anastasia’s old profile was more strange.
"She doesn’t," Xavier gave a curt reply.
"Could it be Ezekiel Clark?" Maxwell asked hesitantly. He could remember when someone had tried to decode her profile. But they were unfortunate to do so.
A flash of anger momentarily flickered in Xavier’s dark eyes before quickly fading, as if it had never been there.
