Chapter 480 - 480: Returning Kindness with Enmity
Ye Qing scratched his head, finding it really difficult to converse with this girl who seemed as innocent as a blank sheet of paper.
"Let me put it this way, the person who kidnapped you tonight, do you wish him good health too?" Ye paused and continued, "He kidnapped you to threaten the Shen family, don't you hate him?"
Shen Qingyi replied, "Why should I hate him?"
Ye said, "He kidnapped you, he threatened your family!"
"Oh." Shen Qingyi thought for a moment and said, "If he threatened our family, then he indeed made a mistake. But making a mistake doesn't mean he should suffer like this. When I was little and made mistakes, my grandmother would forgive me. I will forgive him too!"
Ye watched Shen Qingyi, at a loss for words. This girl was not only innocent like a blank sheet of paper but also immensely kind. Just like when she made her wishes earlier, she didn't seem to think of herself at all but prayed for others first, even those who meant her harm, without a thought for her own concerns. It was only after Ye reminded her that she finally thought of her own matters. In her heart, others' issues must be much more important than her own!
Ye felt even more pity for this girl. Seeing Shen Qingyi's thin clothes, Ye took off his jacket and gently put it over Shen Qingyi's shoulders.
"It's chilly by the sea, don't catch a cold!" Ye said gently, a tone he almost never used.
Wrapped in Ye's large jacket, Shen Qingyi didn't refuse at all, instead, she interestingly slipped her hands into the sleeves, unable to stretch them out fully. She shook the empty sleeves and looked at Ye, saying, "Brother Ye, aren't you cold?"
"I'm fine." Ye chuckled lightly, suddenly remembering something and said, "Wait here for a moment, don't leave, I'll be right back!"
Without waiting for Shen Qingyi to object, Ye immediately turned and walked to the seaside. He searched the beach for a while, found a beautiful seashell, and ran back to the car where Shen Qingyi was waiting expectantly from afar.
Ye felt warmth in his heart, he jogged to the car and was just about to reach out his hand when Shen Qingyi suddenly exclaimed, "Don't move!"
Ye had just lifted his foot but frozen hearing Shen Qingyi's words, watched her in surprise and asked, "What's wrong?"
Shen Qingyi walked over, bent down, and picked up a small crab from the ground right where Ye was about to step. His foot would have likely crushed the crab.
"What's this?" Shen Qingyi curiously held the crab and just as she asked, the crab's pincers suddenly pinched her delicate finger, causing her to shiver in pain. But instead of flinging it off like other girls might, she carefully held it up, as if she was afraid to drop the crab, and gazed at Ye with tearful, pitiful eyes.
Seeing her like this, Ye couldn't help but smile, this girl was sincerely pure and kind. She took such care of even a crab, afraid to harm this little creature with a hard shell.
Ye walked over and gently laughed, "Put your hand on the ground, let it touch the earth, don't move, and it will let go."
"Oh." Shen Qingyi placed her hand on the ground and as soon as the crab touched it, it quickly released its grip and scuttled away.
Shen Qingyi's tender fingers, now marked with a red streak, were as delicate as if they could be easily broken. The pinch from the crab must have truly hurt her pale skin.
Only then did Shen Qingyi shake her hand, blew on the sore spot a few times and then watched the crab slowly crawling away, she asked, "Brother Ye, what was that really?"
"That was a crab, a type of marine animal!" Ye explained with a gentle smile.
"Oh, it's so cute!" Shen Qingyi had no ill feelings towards the crab that pinched her, instead, she was full of joy, delighted by the novelty of the world.
Ye watched the crab wander off and handed the right-hand seashell to Shen Qingyi, saying, "This is for you!"
"What is this? It's beautiful!" Shen Qingyi held the seashell, suddenly excited, saying, "Right, I know this! This is a seashell, isn't it?"
"So you knew." Ye chuckled lightly and replied, "Yes, that's a seashell!"
Shen Qingyi held the seashell in her palm, excitedly saying, "When I was a kid, my aunt gave me a seashell too. But somehow, I lost that seashell. I cried for several days because of it. Brother Ye, thank you, I finally have a seashell again!"
Seeing Shen Qingyi's happy face, Ye felt even more empathy. This girl was the only direct female heir of the Shen family, loved by all members, and had access to endless family wealth, including any gold and jewelry she might want. Yet, she couldn't even keep the simplest seashell. Was this sort of life truly happy?
"Alright, we should head back now!" Ye looked at his watch; it was already after 6 in the morning. Although he had called Tie Yongwen last night, having been away for such a long time, the Shen family must be worried.
"Hmm!" Shen Qingyi clutched the seashell tightly in her palm, looking reluctantly at the beach and whispered, "Aunt, I finally got to see the sea you talked about. But I will never see you again!"
As she spoke these words, two lines of clear tears slid down from her beautiful eyes, sparkling as they gently landed on the beach.
Ye Qing didn't know how to comfort her, so he could only stand by and wait. After a while, Shen Qingyi wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and turned back to the car. When she left, her mood was noticeably depressed.
