Chapter 1510 - 1562 Ambush
Li Yifei grabbed the food and gasoline, didn’t stay, turned around, and left. Wu Shuwei quickly followed. She didn’t know what this Anchor Organization was that the older man mentioned, but Li Yifei’s serious expression made her tense up too.
Even though they had just met a day ago, Wu Shuwei already trusted Li Yifei deeply. Otherwise, she would rather wet herself than get out of the car to relieve herself.
On the way back, they saw the two dogs, who had transformed from fierce to tail-wagging, following beside them, panting for attention.
Back in the car, Li Yifei let Wu Shuwei get in, while he refueled the gas tank.
Wu Shuwei rummaged through the package given by the Arab man, which contained some local snacks, a kind of food similar to the crusty pancake from the Xinjiang Region, and two bags of clear water.
Wu Shuwei was also a bit hungry. She hadn’t eaten much on the plane, planning to eat after getting back home, but ended up being kidnapped. Now, her throat dry and parched, faced with food, her stomach growled loudly. Yet, she didn’t eat immediately. Instead, she waited for Li Yifei to finish refueling and handed the food to him first.
"Eat, there’s quite a bit," Li Yifei said, grabbing a piece and stuffing it into his mouth, chewing vigorously.
Wu Shuwei nodded, tore off a small piece, and put it in her mouth.
When hungry, everything tastes good. Wu Shuwei normally didn’t eat much, but today she ate a lot.
After eating, Wu Shuwei wiped her mouth and looked up to see that Li Yifei had already finished. She smiled awkwardly, cleaned up the food, and looked at Li Yifei, asking, "You... how many people did you kill today?"
"Four, all dead," Li Yifei said blandly.
Wu Shuwei had already guessed, but hearing it from Li Yifei still shocked her. He definitely was someone with a story. Otherwise, how could an ordinary soldier kill four people in one go and be so calm, even indifferent?
Could it be that she had met a person like a soldier king? Or a soldier like Rambo?
Excitedly guessing, after a moment of silence, Wu Shuwei asked, "Who are the people of Anchor, and why did your expression change when the older man mentioned them?"
"You don’t know Anchor?" Li Yifei answered with a question.
Wu Shuwei shook her head, saying, "I don’t know."
"The four people who kidnapped you today are from the Anchor Organization."
"What? How could it be? Are they a terrorist organization?"
"Of course, although not a big organization, among them are some cruel leaders, ruthless to enemies and even more so to traitors within the organization," Li Yifei explained.
Wu Shuwei’s face turned pale as she realized she was kidnapped by someone from a terrorist organization today. If not for Li Yifei, how miserable would her end have been?
Before Li Yifei could ask, she said, "Today one of them said that someone hired them to kidnap me, not just for money..."
"Exactly, these people take any job as long as it makes money; they don’t care about morals," Li Yifei nodded.
Wu Shuwei clasped her hands together, "But, who would have such a big grudge against me, to the extent of hiring terrorists to kidnap me..."
"Haha, that I don’t know. Alright, now that we’re full, it’s time to leave." Li Yifei shook his head, patted the steering wheel, and said,
Having refueled, the car could now travel farther.
In the desert, Li Yifei was not afraid; even if they couldn’t buy food, he wasn’t worried about starving. While animals were scarce in such places, you could always find something to eat, some quite delicious.
"We might have to spend the night in the desert." After leaving the village, Li Yifei drove a little while and discovered something; he thought there would be a road here, but after circling the village, he found only two paths that couldn’t be called roads, meaning there was no highway, making it hard to find a town.
Wu Shuwei absent-mindedly responded with a hum, "You’ve been driving for a long time, tired as well. Let’s just deal with the night in the desert."
Just as Li Yifei was about to agree, he suddenly sensed danger, swiftly turned the steering wheel, and the car swerved to the side.
Wu Shuwei, unprepared, smacked her forehead on the seat in front, hitting her wound, and cried out in pain.
Without time to warn her, Li Yifei controlled the car, reaching for his gun, as the Mercedes crashed into a sand dune and came to a stop.
Li Yifei was also uncomfortable, having slammed his stomach against the steering wheel, his internal organs squeezed.
Shadows suddenly appeared on the road, yelling and rushing towards Li Yifei’s car.
Wu Shuwei, who wanted to ask why Li Yifei suddenly swerved, turned pale upon hearing the commotion outside.
A group of armed men rushed over, and Li Yifei pushed open the car door, dropping a line: "Hide underneath." Then, with a flash, he dashed out.
Da-da-da, bang-bang-bang, the sound of gunfire erupted, mixed with shouts from both sides.
Wu Shuwei wanted to see what was happening outside, but she didn’t dare. Bullets don’t have eyes—get hit by one and she’d be dead.
A few bullets hit the Mercedes, making a drilling sound.
She also worried about Li Yifei. The opposing side wasn’t using ordinary guns, not even just one submachine gun. Even though Li Yifei was formidable, could he survive against so many guns?
Outside, in the darkness, Li Yifei moved like a phantom, holding a gun in one hand, his feet digging into the sand agilely. To those on the other side, he appeared like a series of afterimages, flashing through the air. None of their bullets could catch up to his movements, only hitting the car with a bang or kicking up clouds of sand.
There were about ten people. Li Yifei took down the first person, directly snapping his throat. As he glanced at the man’s wrist, a killing intent emanated from him—this person had an Anchor Organization symbol on his wrist as well.
Since they were from the Anchor Organization, there was no need to be polite to them. Li Yifei was filled with murderous intent, targeting a second person while snatching the first person’s rifle to begin shooting.
Da-da-da, bullets whizzed out, quickly hitting several men who then fell to the ground.
Three to four minutes later, only one person was left out of more than ten. Seeing all his companions dead, he was too scared to shoot at Li Yifei and turned to flee with his gun.
Li Yifei caught up, kicking the man flying. Seeing that he couldn’t escape, the man tried to fire his gun, but Li Yifei broke his wrist with a kick, sending the gun flying.
"Why did you attack me?" Li Yifei asked in Arabic, having just seen these men lying in ambush by the sand dune, two aiming their guns at him, prompting his sudden swerve.
Lı Yifei used Arabic to ask. The man flashed a look of surprise, his eyes darting, but Li Yifei pointed his gun at him, making him confess truthfully.
It turned out that by a stroke of bad luck, Li Yifei had stumbled upon the Anchor Organization’s recent hideout, right in the little village from earlier. Most of the villagers who resisted had been killed, with survivors like the old man earlier.
This organization recently took a few jobs, all of which were kidnapping tasks. They needed to get close to Dubai but couldn’t risk openly entering the city, so they chose a desert village over a hundred kilometers away, ready to flee at the slightest sign of trouble.
Mentioning kidnappings, Li Yifei thought of Wu Shuwei, who was still in the car. He asked, "Who are the people you’ve kidnapped?"
"I really don’t know. The tasks are given by the leaders, and we only find out when it’s time to carry them out."
"Hmm, how many people are left in the village?"
"What... what do you intend to do?"
"If you don’t speak, you’re dead," Li Yifei said coldly.
"Okay, I’ll talk! There are around thirty people in the village, led by one of our leaders, and about a dozen others have gone out for tasks."
"Heh, very good." After Li Yifei spoke, the man struggled, but the gunfire had already sounded. The man twitched a few times and then completely stopped moving.
Li Yifei picked up several guns and threw them into the back of the car. Wu Shuwei propped herself up, staring blankly at the guns still warm and bloody.
"Anchor Organization is the group that kidnapped you. They’re in the village from earlier, so we need to leave here now," Li Yifei said, taking the driver’s seat. He started the car, tried to reverse, but found the vehicle stuck on a sand dune. After several attempts, the wheels spun the sand up but couldn’t get free.
"You steer, I’ll push the car," Li Yifei said, tapping the steering wheel before getting out.
Wu Shuwei gave an "oh" and quickly switched to the driver’s seat. She still wondered how Li Yifei alone could push the car until she saw him gesture to reverse and then press his hands against the front of the car.
With a low growl, his muscles tightened across his face. Wu Shuwei quickly reversed, feeling the car being pushed back by an immense force.
This strength... Wu Shuwei gained a new understanding of Li Yifei. This man wasn’t just brave, skilled, and an accurate shot, but also incredibly strong.
The car backed out of the sandpit, finally free to move. Li Yifei dusted off his hands and the dirt on his clothes, while Wu Shuwei scrambled to the passenger seat to give Li Yifei the driver’s seat.
Just as the two were about to drive away, Li Yifei cursed.
They couldn’t leave. In the earlier chaotic battle, a stray bullet had damaged the fuel tank. Critical hit location: the bottom of the tank. Gasoline was dripping out thickly. Li Yifei already smelled the fuel earlier, thinking it was the engine, but one look at the fuel gauge revealed something was off.
Seeing it was just as he thought, the fuel was almost drained from the tank.
"What do we do?" Wu Shuwei had no idea. They were too close to those terrorists—she didn’t want to stay here a minute longer.
