The columns here are not all those Doric Pillars tinged with a creamy yellow hue; some of them are black, resembling obsidian or other unknown mysterious metals.
However, despite the countless stone columns standing here, they do not reach the ceiling, because this place is still an inner curved structure of a sphere. The gravity system beyond cognition transforms this space into a transcendent, enigmatic domain.
At the tops of the columns stand countless sculptures, each with distinct shapes—some resembling Angels, others portraying Demons.
The Angel Sculptures fold their wings, weeping with their faces covered, while the Demon Sculptures spread their bat-like wings wide, radiating rage and ferocity. The former are perched atop the white columns, while the latter are situated upon the black ones, balancing one another to make the whole layer resemble an enormous Western chessboard.
Chains dangle from many of these columns, with their ends suspending small Angel or Demon sculptures. However, their forms are uniformly incomplete, and all of them are missing wings, as if violently torn away. Were it not for the faint traces of wing roots extending from their shoulder blades toward their backs, it would have been difficult to distinguish whether they were miniature humans or little Angels, small devils or little Demons.
Scattered around the columns are a few bookshelves. On this level, the shelves are far fewer than the first level—like sparse rows you might find in the secluded Northern European countryside, spaced so far apart that you have to squint to spot one or two rows from a distance.
Though they are arranged in segments, the sparse quantity makes it challenging to easily determine the path out of the bookshelf zone.
This is less a library and more a domain of columns.
The old man ran through the space, like wandering through an ancient, decrepit Greek temple. Yet no matter how he ran, the pathways seemed to perpetually maintain a Mirage-like distance from him.
