Chapter 1320 - 1322: We’re Going Home_1
By the time February had settled in, the new County Magistrate of Mianyang County arrived, a young man who was also an Advanced Scholar from the same cohort as Ye Zi’an.
However, upon seeing that Ye Zi’an had been promoted to Prefect in just a mere three years, while he was still a junior County Magistrate, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy.
But he had to admire Ye Zi’an—if it had been him, Mianyang might not have seen such prosperity. On his way here, he had noticed it, the official roads here were even better than those elsewhere. And about Yanghe Town, before he entered the government office, he specifically went for a look and found it truly beautiful. Along the entire riverside, some were enjoying themselves while others were setting up their stalls—the sight alone told him the residents nearby must be living well.
Only now the pressure was even greater on him. His predecessor had done exceptionally well, and now it was his turn. Even if he couldn’t match the feats, he couldn’t afford to perform much worse. Yet, almost all the effective projects in Mianyang had been completed; coming up with new achievements was going to be tough!
"Is everything handed over?"
"All done," Ye Zi’an said with a smile, "We can set off early tomorrow; the sooner we leave, the sooner the new County Magistrate can move in."
"That’s true, but it’s a pity about this courtyard. I had it nicely fixed up, and I barely lived in it. Now the next person will benefit."
"No matter how nice this courtyard is, it can’t compare to our home in Yangshu Village." He particularly missed those few small buildings.
"That’s true."
The next day
While Yang Chuxia was still deep in sleep, their room’s door was being knocked on loudly.
"Mom, dear Dad, wake up; we’re going home."
"Mom, dear Dad!"
"Hmm..." Yang Chuxia’s eyes opened slightly, "What time is it?"
"Just midway through the fifth hour. How come these two got up so early? You go back to sleep; I’ll go check."
Ye Zi’an put on his clothes and went to open the door. Outside, Yangyang had already dressed while Lele stood quietly on the side, his eyes clearly filled with excitement about going home.
"Why are you knocking so loudly?" Ye Zi’an scolded Yangyang grumpily, "Your mother is still sleeping. If you startle your sister, I’ll spank you."
Upon hearing this, Yangyang subconsciously touched his neck and said with a giggle, "Dear Dad, I was just eager. I can’t even remember what our home looks like; I want to go back home early."
"I don’t remember much either," Lele added, "Dad, if we leave early, we can get home sooner; Grandma and Grandpa must miss me and my brother."
Hearing her sons’ conversation, Yang Chuxia couldn’t fall back asleep inside.
Once she got up and freshened up, she had breakfast brought over, but these two insisted on eating in the carriage.
Ye Zi’an pulled them by the collars of their shirts to one side, "Whether you eat is up to you, but your mother has to have breakfast before we hit the road."
Therefore, the two boys reluctantly sat down quietly; yet, while they ate, their eyes were constantly fixed on Yang Chuxia, who certainly felt their intense gaze.
It wasn’t until Yang Chuxia put down her chopsticks that the children immediately set down their spoons, waiting for her to say they could leave.
"No matter how anxious you two are, it won’t help; we won’t get home today. It takes at least a month to travel from Mianyang to Funan."
"But if we leave early, we’ll get there sooner," Lele argued.
Yangyang stepped forward and took her hand, "Mom, let’s leave quickly; I miss Uncle Qingtong."
"Tsk, I think you’re just missing your Uncle Qingtong’s rebukes." Ye Zi’an knew his son’s nature all too well.
