Chapter 29 - 28: The Wager
The Soul Prism far surpassed the Devil’s Contract and the Magic Slavery Contract in all aspects, except for the somewhat awkward condition that resembled a transaction. As for a regular servitude contract, it wasn’t even worthy of being mentioned in the same breath.
Once a soul was imprisoned and controlled by a Soul Coin, it was fundamentally enslaved and objectified, able to be molded into any shape one pleased. Its essence was that of a cold, hard currency; a standard item from the Nine Layers of Hell, valued by souls. Being an item, it naturally had no freedom or human rights at all.
David simply couldn’t imagine what great illness had befallen the Drow’s mind to place such a thing before him. If the roles were reversed at this moment, David even felt he could overcome his psychological barrier: the moment it was discovered, he’d secretly stuff it into his own backside to keep it out of enemy hands. That meant he would be directly mortgaging his own soul.
He took a deep breath, then peered deeply into the eyes of the Drow, who seemed carefree but resolute, considering a possibility.
"State your demands, Drow."
He had no reason to refuse.
The Drow, betting correctly, also breathed a sigh of relief and, looking up at the Red Dragon, said, "You know, we now have a common enemy, and I hope you’ll cooperate with me to take them down and seize their ship. This Soul Prism is our guarantee of joint cooperation, eliminating any fear you might have of betrayal from my side before or after the battle."
Just as I thought... David squinted his eyes and tilted his chin, gesturing for her to continue.
The Drow bowed her head, saying, "After the battle, I hope you will let me return to Spider Nest City once. As long as I can come back, the control over the second half of my life is yours. Just as I said before, whatever you want me to do, Krista Hiatt will do. You are now my only and loyal master."
