Avatar - Conquering the Elements

Chapter 141

*The Library of Wan Shi Tong in the Spirit World.*

Why had I spent all these years waiting for the Solstice? Sure, before absorbing the abilities of that "mimic," there were too many tasks no single person could handle. Maybe it was because my growth rate was already decent. Two days a year were enough for noticeable improvement. Plus, thanks to the space between barriers, I could easily choose where to appear, landing right beside the spirits I needed.

"Now I have to fly somewhere, hoping to find earth spirits..." For miles around Wan Shi Tong's Library, no dark spirits appeared. The ancient spirit's presence alone kept them away, and Wan Shi Tong periodically cleansed the area of any bold ones.

With a gentle push off the ground, I was swept up by air currents. From the outside, it looked like I was floating without using magic. My understanding and control over air were enough to avoid creating massive whirlwinds.

During the last or second-to-last Solstice, I conducted a small experiment to figure out why I could levitate using elements while others couldn't. I also recalled how, during the assault on the Fire Sages, they opened a portal to another plane, and the dark spirits that arrived could fly using elements. And when I took Yui and Katara to the Spirit World, they created a stable water platform to fly on.

It turned out to be a bit more complicated than I initially thought. The first reason conquerors can't fly in the human world is the scattered elemental particles. The energy field of the human plane is "drier" compared to the Spirit World, so particles float far apart. Creating a stable flying structure is nearly impossible. In the Spirit World, this isn't an issue—thanks to the abundance of elemental particles, they're always close together.

The second factor is the sensitivity of spirits, an ability that stayed with me even after reincarnation. It's why I, other spirits, and Avatars in their State can fly. We forcibly attract particles to ourselves simply because we sense them.

After a couple of hours, the first "minnows" appeared—low-level fire spirits. Without moving, I calmly sliced through their bodies with sharp air blades. I didn't even try to absorb their energy—it was practically pointless. It's like an Arrancar deliberately hunting weak Hollows. In short, no benefit.

Soon, the first earth spirits appeared. Without slowing down, I rammed into a stone golem's body, impaling it completely on the bone spikes that shot out of me.

At that moment, refreshing earth energy flowed into me from the freshly killed mid-level spirit. The source seemed to slowly awaken from its slumber. But...

"Why wasn't the energy of a whole mid-level spirit enough to raise the source to the same level?" It had always worked that way before.
