Chapter 100. The Secret
*Wan's Residence Near the Capital*
The estate I received as a reward once belonged to a corrupt official recently dealt with by Ozai. The small manor was surrounded by a two-meter-high wall. On the grounds stood a servants' cottage, the main house, and a rock garden. Such gardens are common among the Fire Nation—after all, not all islands can support plants, but rocks are always available.
After inspecting my new property, I was relatively satisfied. Everything needed for a comfortable life was there. Only the somewhat gypsy-like interior style bothered me. That comparison came to mind when I saw the abundance of gilded decorations.
- "Looks like they really didn't know where to spend their money," I thought. For some reason, I associate such "specific" taste with dishonestly earned money.
Soon, Ursa learned that Zuko was leaving with his uncle. Of course, there was a small scandal, which she would have kept to herself, but I was there... I could say many harsh words about Ozai and the unknown employers of her children.
- "With Iroh, he'll definitely be safe. The Dragon of the West's reputation isn't for nothing," I tried to reassure her.
- "I know, but I still don't want to let him go," she sighed for the umpteenth time.
- "Especially since he'll turn fifteen this year—it's time for him to see the world," I added. It feels like the world is trying to send Zuko away by any means...
The Fire Lord couldn't ignore his daughter, who faced no less danger. So, her final year of training would take place within the Palace walls. Azula was pleased with this arrangement, but it seemed the proximity to death had given her more confidence.
- "Father, I must maintain our connection with Mai and Ty Lee. In the future, I'll need loyal allies," she declared firmly, her fist planted on the ground. Even Zuko was impressed. "Please allow them to train with me!" she finished, raising her head and staring fearlessly at the wall of fire behind which Ozai sat.
Everyone held their breath, waiting for his response...
