Chapter 183: Leading The Charge
Once on the ground, these three-meter-tall machines of destruction wasted no time. Alongside the mechanical dogs, they began systematically clearing the remaining defenses of the Nunavut base. Micro-missiles streaked through the sky, exploding in rapid succession. The roar of heavy machine gun fire echoed without pause, creating a deafening symphony of destruction.
Unlike the Fearless Warriors, whose power lay in their close-quarters combat, the mechanical legions specialized in raw firepower. Against the outmatched soldiers of the base, it was a one-sided massacre. Pinned down by the relentless assault, the defenders couldn't even lift their heads.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
A group of Vanguard soldiers huddled behind a crumbling bunker, flinching as bullets and debris rained down around them. Outside, several mechanical dogs kept up a relentless barrage, their heavy rounds chipping away at the reinforced concrete. "The targets are hiding in the bunker! Switching to armor-piercing rounds!" Before the mechanical dogs could fire, a nearby Terror Spider raised its mechanical arm. Two micro-missiles launched from its integrated launcher, streaking through the air in a sharp arc.
Boom! Boom!
The missiles bypassed the bunker's front and detonated from above, turning the soldiers hiding behind it into a mess of shredded flesh and scattered limbs. The Nunavut defenders weren't completely helpless. Though the Vanguard soldiers' rifles couldn't penetrate the Fearless Warriors' power armor with a single shot, they were devastating against the lighter-armored units.
Mechanical dogs, in particular, were highly vulnerable. A single well-placed shot could punch through their thin alloy plating, and two or three shots to a critical area could take one down completely.
Even the Terror Spiders, though better armored, weren't invincible. Their mass-produced design meant they couldn't withstand sustained fire from the strange biomechanical rifles wielded by the Vanguard soldiers. But the relentless advance of the Fearless Warriors and the suppressive fire of the mechanical legions left the defenders with little chance to fight back. Most soldiers cowered behind cover, too terrified to raise their heads.
"Armor-piercing rounds equipped." The mechanical dogs and Terror Spiders switched their ammunition, and the tide of battle shifted again.
