"Huh," he grunted, a strange look on his face. "Somehow, that doesn't surprise me one bit."

With a thought, I let my Balance Breaker dissolve into motes of light, landing softly on the ground. I sat down cross-legged, a clear sign that the fight was over. "Okay," I said. "So, why do you attack the people that Sirzechs sends here?"

His battle-ready stance relaxed, and the iron scales receded. "So, the big red-haired devil got you to come here?"

"Yes, he did."

"Well, I was the one attacked first," he explained, leaning against a tree. "Every time someone comes snooping around here. You see, I'm just a scout."

"There's a group of you?" I asked, surprised.

"Just two of us left, for now," he said, his voice turning somber. "She's still weak from fighting too much, so I set her up in a cave in a makeshift bed while I look out for anything."

"Oh, I get it," I said, the pieces falling into place. "But why tell me all this? I could still be your enemy."

Gajeel snorted. "You know just as much as I do that we Dragon Slayers can sense if the one in front of us is a true enemy. Their smell is bad. Yours just smells like… well, a dragon."

"Somehow, I forgot about that," I admitted.

"I don't know why they just attack us," he continued, frustration lacing his voice. "Every time. I'd be willing to work something out. We're just trying to stay here until she's well enough to travel."

"I might be able to help," I offered. "With healing. Would you let me see her?"

Gajeel looked hesitant for a second, his eyes sizing me up, before he finally gave a curt nod. "Follow me."

We both got up and started walking deeper into the forest.

As we walked, he turned to me. "We had a group of people, but we were split up," he explained. "You've heard of magic guilds, correct?"

"Yes," I said. "I've heard of them. Places for mages from all three factions, neutral territory where they work together."

"Yeah, well, we're part of a pretty popular one called Fairy Tail," he said, a note of fierce pride in his voice. "It's the strongest guild there is."

"Interesting," I replied.

We stopped at a large, overgrown bush. Gajeel moved it aside, revealing a dark hole in the ground.

He jumped down without hesitation, and I followed.

It was a small, dry cave, surprisingly warm. I saw him go over to a corner where a makeshift bed of leaves and cloaks had been set up.

As I got closer, my eyes adjusted to the dim light, and I saw who was lying there.

My breath caught in my throat. Lying there, pale and unconscious, was a fucking legend: Erza Scarlet.

Her iconic scarlet hair was matted with dirt, and a patchwork of deep, ugly bruises covered her arms and face.

A makeshift bandage was wrapped around her midsection, stained with dried blood. I immediately used Observe, needing to know just how bad it was.

Observe:

Name: Erza Scarlet

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Age: 20

Title: Strongest Female Wizard in Fairy Tail

Fame: Scary Lady

Sacred Gear: None

Level: 245

HP: 137 / 42,500

MP: 55 / 80,000

Stamina: 27 / 30,000

Strength: 245

Endurance: 245

Agility: 245

Intelligence: 245

Wisdom: 245

Luck: 100

Her stats were critical. She was on the verge of death from sheer exhaustion and injury.

"I can help her," I said to Gajeel, my voice low and serious. "If you let me."

"At this point, anything would help," he replied, his own voice rough with worry.

I nodded and opened my inventory, pulling out a handful of potions. I gave them to Gajeel, who looked at the colorful vials with suspicion.

"Red is a health potion, green is for stamina, and blue is for magic," I explained clearly and calmly.

"She's very weak right now. There's not enough ambient magic in the air here to help her recover on her own. You need to give her the stamina potions first, then the health, then the magic. You'll have to hold her nose and pour them down her throat. That way, she has no choice but to drink. Do you understand?"

He gave a curt, determined nod. He uncapped one of the green stamina potions and cautiously sniffed it, making sure it wasn't poison.

I didn't blame him. Satisfied, he gently pinched Erza's nose and carefully poured the liquid into her mouth, stroking her throat to make her swallow.

I kept my Observe screen on her, watching as her stamina number slowly, painstakingly, began to tick upward.

He did the same with the health potions, and then finally the magic potions. As her HP and MP bars began to fill, a little bit of color returned to her cheeks.

After he finished, Gajeel sat down on the cavern floor beside her, a heavy sigh of relief escaping his lips. He looked at me, his expression a mixture of gratitude and suspicion.

"Never did get your name," he said.

"My name is Shiro."

"And you're a Fire Dragon Slayer."

"Not just that," I corrected. "A Lightning Dragon Slayer and a Shadow Dragon Slayer, too."

He looked at me, his eyes wide with shock. "That… that can't be possible. No one can hold three elements."

Just then, my Boosted Gear materialized on my arm, the yellow gems glowing softly in the dim light.

"That would be because of me," Voltaris's voice boomed, startling Gajeel. "I am his Sacred Gear, Voltaris, the Lightning Dragon God of Chaos. You see, one of my skills allows me to absorb knowledge. If I read a book about magic, I can instantly learn it. Since Shiro here is my host, he also has that skill. That is why he can use Dragon Slayer magic in the first place, and why he can master more than one."

Gajeel stared at the gauntlet, then at me, the pieces clicking into place in his mind. "I understand," he said, a newfound respect in his eyes.
