Beauty in the beast world

Chapter 317: Calm before the storm

Kyrell heard the commotion before he was informed about it. He was still beside Lyra, refusing to leave her side when one of his guardsmen rushed inside his chambers looking aghast.

"What happened?’’ he asked not having any patience left. Kyrell was already quite livid having learned about Alice and his tribe’s misdeeds against the one he loved. He felt like he was reaching his limit and didn’t know when he would snap and start tearing everyone apart, it was getting harder and harder to stay calm while his tribe seemed hell-bent on riling him up.

They were trying every weapon in their arsenal but he held back, he had to. Getting consumed by his bloodlust now and scaring his Lyra once she regains her consciousness was the last thing he wanted. But god was it becoming more and more difficult? And now? Facing the guard’s face now told him enough. Someone would die today. Kyrell decided to make sure of that. Because his tribe clearly didn’t like having a benevolent ruler.

"Your majesty, a rebellion has broken out at the palace gates’’ the guard finally said breaking his silence while the elders outside Kyrell’s chambers glared at the guard.

"I expected this to happen Your Majesty" chimed in one of the elders, "The males will not stand us dragging around females, be they traitors or not. There are rules in the Beast city that simply cannot be broken, not by the king himself" Kyrell detected the elder’s bitter tone that was more like berating directed at the king’s seemingly wrong decision.

Kyrell though could care less about other people’s opinions, "Do you still think I play by rules, Elder Stephen?" His grim voice settled in making everyone in the room freeze. He had a smirk on his face as he continued, "When I ripped out your late King’s heart from his chest and sat on his throne, did you think I was following the rules?’’ his face kept on getting dark and grim as he added, "I did not have a speck of royal blood in me and still became your king. What made you think that I would follow your pesky little rules now? Especially when this tribe, you included wronged my female?"

Elder Stephen took a step back sensing, Kyrell’s suppressed bloodlust leaking out. He quivered but still replied not wanting to give in to the King. An uncontrollable King who has no fear of his subject’s retributions would pose a great threat in the future, "This is your tribe as well, Your Majesty. How can you talk so neglectfully about your own tribe...? You have a duty to protect us’’

"Is your head filled with stones?’’ Kyrell snapped back while a dark chuckle left his throat, "Can’t you understand? Me not having your heads on pikes is the mercy I have shown as this tribe’s king. If I had not been a king and you did as you did to my mate. Insulting her, disrespecting her authority as my Queen, not informing me of this stupid charade that you guys were taking part in with Alice, Condemning my authority when I never announced Alice as my spouse...If I was not your king, then blood would have been spilled before you even had a chance to speak this nonsense" He stepped toward Stephen while the latter took a shaking step back, "Elder Stephen, I have forced myself to stay calm so don’t test my patience anymore. My female is here in this wretched tribe, remember that her presence is the only thing stopping me from doing worse"

"And You’’ Kyrell said looking pointedly at the guard standing near the door, "Go out and issue my orders, tell them that they will die if they continue causing a disturbance, warn them before I reach there. This is me doing my duty, Elder Stephen" he said turning back to the one in front of him, "I’m warning before I kill them, aren’t I a.....’’ He looked as though searching for an appropriate word, "Magnanimous King? A good one?’’
