Chapter 313: The opportunity
Lexi maintained a neutral expression on her face throughout the conversation but inside she was filled with anxiety. She was not blind. As the princess of the fox tribe, she had received courtship of multiple males and it was easy for her to grasp when a male had feelings for her or for her fellow females. It was an instinct that she never failed to discern. And one more time, here she was sensing it all over again....with her brother.
"What were you guys doing while that bastard took her away!?"
"Is this how you take care of your mate!?"
"She will be safe right?"
"She should be safe....or else I don’t know what I will do"
Her brother was painfully obvious about his feelings for that Lyra girl. Lexi could see that and the Lion Prince was no different. He was getting the gist of Xavier’s true intention regarding his mate. It was not that hard. The tensed words and actions of her ever-stoic brother were enough for everyone in the throne room to know that their king had long chosen the tribe’s Queen. Some were glad that they learned of this before they could make the mistake of introducing another female. But the ones that wanted their daughters on the seat of Queen gnashed their teeth, internally swearing at Lyra. She was already the Queen of multiple tribes, was that not enough?
However, it seemed like the word enough didn’t seem to hold any meaning in that tramp’s life. Lexi was seething with anger and filled with fear. She along with Elena harassed Lyra, tried to harm her...worst almost killed her. Elena.....yes that wretched bitch was the reason for all the bad things that happened in Lexi’s life. She should have never made that bitch as her friend. Investigation related to treason was already like a blade swinging near her neck, one mistake and her head would fall. And now! Now she has to try and get along with the female she openly hated. Her brother would rip her into pieces if he learned of her past related to causing Lyra distress.
Lexi wanted to bang her head against the stone wall for all of the bad decisions she took. For now, all she could hope was Lyra was not a vengeful person. Otherwise, she was really done for.
"We should leave right away, there is no time to waste" Xavier got up from his seat and walked towards Noah, "Hurry, let us go"
Noah had so many thoughts in his mind, he had so much that he wanted to say but the only thing he could ask was, "What payment do you expect from us to do this job, Your Majesty"
That made Xavier stop in his tracks. His jaw clenched as he gritted out, "We can discuss that later, Noah" Then he turned back with a cold look in his eyes, "Stop wasting my time with your dilly-dallying, know that I’m at my limit" Xavier didn’t explain why he was at his limit or why he was acting like this just because of someone else’ female, nonetheless Noah understood everything. He didn’t need any special explanation for the current situation. Everything was clear as day. Noah had chills running down his spine when he recognized the meaning behind Xavier’s gaze.
If the crisis was not dire then he would have asked someone else for help. But as Xavier said, there was no time. So although he hesitated, he said, "I understand, your Majesty"
