Chapter 248: Meeting his hero
After leaving the Fox tribe, Xavier shifted into his beast form before sprinting all around the beast city. Some beastmen got scared sensing an immortal beastman in their territories but none dared to stop him. The only thing they could do was hide inside their abodes hoping that he would leave soon. And Xavier did. He grew frustrated with people’s gazes and females’ screaming. Hence he went in search of some peaceful place for him to rest. The scene that happened to his aid back in his tribe refused to leave his mind. Kyle was not that close to him. It’s just that he for the first time in his life felt bad for someone and that happened to be his aid.
Just in a single day, Kyle went through torture due to some false accusations against him and then lost the one that he truly loved. And Xavier as the king, couldn’t do anything about it. The charge against his aid was not something that should be taken lightly. Whoever may have been the culprit, they allowed those pesky strays inside their tribe endangering every single one in the tribe. It was surprising enough that the guards didn’t Kill kyle when he was accused. They must have held themselves back because Kyle was his aide. Also having an elder as his father would have helped him. But those advantages and help seemed to mean nothing at the end for Kyle because his lover died right in front of his eyes.
Regarding that lover, Xavier wasn’t very sure if the former committed treason. He might have done it and killed himself in hopes of not implicating Kyle. Nothing could be known as of now. There was also another possibility happening here. Someone must have threatened the former to take the blame on himself. And if that was the case then Xavier knew that it would not be that easy for him to catch the real perpetrator. The one that could threaten someone and target his own aide had to have some kind of power inside the tribe. In a tribe, the king is a supreme power, yes, but the ones working under him will have the same or more power than him. After all, it has not been that long since he became the king. His father the previous fox king would have had people by his side that he favoured. Like some elders and witch masters for example. Or it could be his own sister Lexi. She wielded quite some power inside the tribe. As there was no queen in their tribe, all the work that should be done by the tribe’s queen fell on Lexi. And he wasn’t going to lie, she did a good job in her work so much so that he didn’t want to go through the hassle of choosing a Queen for himself.
He didn’t like the idea of having a mate that would do nothing but control his life and bring him headaches. That was what he really wanted. A mate-free life. But why the hell was he standing here in front of this wretched castle? He kept on staring at the familiar rose castle and it seemed like his legs refused to move from that place. It was snowing quite heavily outside where he stood but that didn’t bother him. His powers were related to ice, so feeling cold was not possible but instead, he felt hot. His face burned due to shame. He closed his eyes and opened it before shifting into his beastman form.
He hesitated a bit before finally resigning to his fate and entering the gates of the rose castle, "No barrier?’’ he mused feeling surprised. The last time he came here, there was a magical barrier surrounding the house and then again, he also didn’t feel any presence inside the castle. There was a possibility that the males had erased their presence, which was quite easy for immortal beastmen like them. But that was not the case with females. So concluding all of this, it was clear that she was also not inside her house.
That suddenly disappointed him. The reason? He didn’t know. But today, one thing became clear to him. When he wanted to find some peace, the first place his mind remembered was this, and he reached here before he could think more. It was bizarre and odd for him to do this but well, there was nothing he could do against himself.
He walked near the door before pushing it open. Then he roamed his eyes around the living room and soon it fell on the stairs. If he remembered correctly, that pretty female came running down these stairs when he came here to cure her cubs. That was enough for him to start climbing them which lead him to stand in front of another door. He was about to open it but retreated back when he felt a dark shadow hit his face. Looking up, he caught sight of a Beastman with Purple eyes glaring at him.
"Who are you?’’ asked the stranger making Xavier frown.
"I should be the one asking you that," Xavier said while avoiding the shadow that tried to once again attack, "And stop this fucking thing from coming near my face before I strangle it"
Kaizer glanced at his shadow creature ordering it to stay still and turned to Xavier, "Now tell me, who are you and what are you doing here?’’
Xavier mused to himself before replying, "I’m the fox king. And If I’m right then you are a rootless beastman"
