Chapter 218: Are you hurt?
Xavier took a stealthy glance at his side before continuing to walk. It was becoming damn hard for him to keep his composure due to the presence beside him. Her feeble breathing, tripping steps, and loud heartbeats kept on distracting him. He wanted to scold her to walk properly, "Why are you walking like that!? Like a blind turtle?"
Lyra stopped in her steps when she heard a cold voice chastising her and turned to him before giving him a sheepish smile, "I’m sorry. I can’t see well in the dark"
Xavier felt like shit. He couldn’t help but scold himself inwardly. He should’ve known that females are different from males. The former didn’t have much night vision and hence avoided traveling in the dark. They didn’t feel safe enough to do so unless accompanied by their males. But what he didn’t know was Lyra was even worse compared to other females in the beast world.
Due to her mother being a human, the only vision that she could see in the night was pitch black, and nothing else. At least beast females had senses inherent by either of their parents and could make out their way into the dark up to a certain extent but not her. It was like she didn’t inherit anything from her father. And as her first mate was Blake, she only received his ability to swim and breathe underwater. Only later did she learn that the female can gain only her first mate’s ability. This was also why being one’s first mate was special for males.
"Here, Hold me" Lyra came out of her thoughts when a muscular arm was thrust in front of her.
"Hurry up!" she quickly held his harm hearing his loud voice. The fox king seemed like a hot head to Lyra. Well, it would be rather odd if he favored her. They were strangers to each other after all.
Xavier clenched his jaw as soon as her small hands encircled his arm. He felt her gently lean against him and gasped.
Lyra was alarmed hearing him gasp and turned toward him while inquiring, "Are you alright?"
Meanwhile, Xavier cursed himself for acting like a young laden. In his defense, this was indeed his first time having such close contact with a female. No.....the first time was when he hugged her back then in the rose castle. And as for the wretched female that had tried to assault him in the past, Xavier didn’t even let her touch him before he killed her using his powers. Now that he recalled, the very first time that he used his innate ice powers was on that female. To defend himself from her cruel clutches.
Even remembering that day still left him disgusted but now oddly, the soothing scent and warmth hugging him on his side at this moment brought him so much comfort and solace that it made him annoyed. He was annoyed at himself for getting swayed by this ambitious female that couldn’t even keep up with his steps.
"Walk faster!" he snarled taking out his anger and that made Lyra flinch.
"I’m sorry" She apologized feeling guilty. Lyra felt bad troubling the kind beastman that offered his help in taking her home. She tried her best to keep up with his steps but it was becoming harder and harder because he took giant steps with his long legs.
