Chapter 402 - 256: Abandoned Corpse in the Wilderness
After chatting with Rong Qian for a while, she called for Maid Xing to help out.
It was a busy day throughout the government residence, and Ran Yan watched others bustling about all day until, as twilight fell, the hustle finally came to an end.
Fresh snow had silently fallen all night, and at dawn the next day, just as the drum sounds ceased, a rider charged through the gate of Anshan Square, which was only half-open. The gatekeeper, about to scold, recognized the rider in the scarlet official uniform and knew there was official business, so he merely grumbled and continued opening the gate.
Ran Yan had just risen from bed and was still washing up when a maid rushed in, "Wife, Assistant Minister Xiao has arrived. He says there is official business and requests your assistance."
The faint traces of sleep in Ran Yan’s eyes immediately dispersed. So early in the morning, he hadn’t even attended court yet and was already in such a hurry to find her—most likely, they had discovered another body!
"Forget it, just tie up my hair casually," Ran Yan instructed.
Wan Lu knew Ran Yan’s temperament and complied, combing her hair smoothly and forming a low bun at the back. She chose a narrow-sleeved jacket and skirt for her, and specifically draped a unisex black cloak over her before hurrying to the front courtyard.
Xiao Song, covered in dust, had just taken a sip of hot tea. Seeing Ran Yan arrive, he immediately set down his cup and stood up, asking, "Have you had breakfast?"
Ran Yan did not answer but asked instead, "What happened?"
"A body was found at the foot of the eastern city hills. There’s an urgent need for action now, and I don’t have time to summon a team of forensic doctors for a discussion. Help me," Xiao Song said.
Ran Yan was slightly taken aback, feeling grateful that he trusted her so much. "Alright, let’s go. Tell me the details as we walk."
