Miss Truth

The room was silently still, the aroma of orchids faintly emanating from the incense burner. Just as Ran Yan was about to sit down on the mat, she saw someone emerge from the inner room.

Recognizing the person, Ran Yan couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise, "Brother Ten!"

Ran Yunsheng was clearly just as astonished, "Yan? What are you doing here?"

Ran Yan suddenly felt a tightness in her chest and swiftly stood up. Numerous possibilities flashed through her mind, each more ominous than the last, "We’ll talk later; we might have fallen into a trap. Let’s get out quickly and discuss!"

"What?" Ran Yunsheng frowned slightly; he had drunk a bit too much and had been chatting over tea with a couple of friends. When they had gone out to the restroom, and Ran Yan walked in, he had thought they had come back...

Thinking this, he too began to sense that something was amiss and immediately started to head outside with Ran Yan. However, they realized that the front door had somehow been locked—impossible to open from the inside!

Ran Yan grew anxious and punched through the paper on the window to look outside; the maid who had been standing in the corridor was nowhere to be seen. A cold sweat broke out on her back; this was clearly a meticulously planned trap. Who could it be that had such a vendetta against her!

Holding onto a sliver of hope, Ran Yan checked all the windows inside the room but found no exits.

"Yan!" Ran Yunsheng suddenly said, "I feel somewhat off..."

His voice was somewhat hoarse and strained by the time he reached the last word. Ran Yan turned back to see Ran Yunsheng’s cheeks unnaturally flushed, his eyes brimming like autumn waters, and tiny beads of sweat forming on his nose. His handsome face seemed even more captivating.
