"What do you like about me?" Ran Yan continued patiently guiding Sang Chen’s thoughts, hoping he could speak on the same wavelength as her, only then could they reason together.

Sang Chen’s pale skin seemed as though it could squeeze out blood, and his mind was filled with a rumbling noise, "I don’t know."

"Because you think I’m brave, right?" Ran Yan answered for him, seeing Sang Chen freeze for a moment, lifting his head to glance at her before quickly lowering it again, Ran Yan continued, "Because I dare to touch dead bodies, you feel safer around me, is that it?"

Sang Chen remained silent.

Ran Yan also held her breath, carefully considering each word, for fear of giving Sang Chen the wrong impression. After a long pause, she sighed and said, "Do you know, sometimes I am also scared, often waking up from nightmares, and I also hope that one day, someone will understand me at that moment and make me feel at ease."

Sang Chen slowly lifted his head, his expression slightly calmer than before, but he couldn’t help feeling surprised. In his eyes, Ran Yan was someone who even dared dissect a corpse, what could she possibly be afraid of?

"You’re wondering what I could possibly be afraid of, aren’t you?" Ran Yan gathered her cloak around herself and found a place to squat down under the plum tree, "Seeing so much life and death separation, my mind is filled with all sorts of murders, all sorts of deaths, and it makes the world seem bleak, so I try to find the beauty in this world, liking things that are vibrant and people radiating with vitality from within."

Even though Sang Chen was pure, he was fragile and confused. His past was also dark. Ran Yan felt sympathy, but not fondness.
