Chapter 1006 - 1003: Are We Close Enough? [Bonus]
Corey and Pamela ran while using their unique lightning movement arts.
Due to the fight between Syrelle and Thalos, the attention of Anton and the two Tier 6s were mainly on the two siblings, allowing Corey and Pamela to climb the world tree without interference from them.
However, that did not mean that they did not receive interference from the world tree itself.
One thing that Corey had not told Pamela was that he was worried that the world tree would refuse their help and worst of all, attack them.
And his fears came to pass.
A lightning bolt fell from the crown of the world tree, and it nearly turned Corey and Pamela into ashes.
Fortunately for them, they had not reached halfway to the top of the world tree, and it was weakened.
They barely managed to dodge it, but the lightning bolt was one that literally caused the hair on their body to stand at attention.
’If not for my newly gained lightning resistance and the fact that my body and soul has gained Tribulation Lightning which is a lot more powerful than normal lightning, I’d have received some damage from that attack even though it didn’t touch me.’
’Just the arcs of electricity moving through the entire tree is enough to have caused the previous me from before the lightning tribulation a lot of damage.’
’It’s like running up a rod of lightning.’
Corey’s eyes flickered as he looked up while running, and then he looked at Pamela.
"You absorbed a lightning infinity crystal. Can you do something about the lightning that’s about to strike us?"
"What do you think I’ve been doing ever since we started climbing?" Pamela replied without looking at Corey.
Her eyes were silver and it also had the glowing symbol of infinity in them, and when Corey activated his Eyes of Omniscience, he saw countless complex runes swirling around Pamela.
The sheer intensity and number of the runes astounded him, and when he saw that there was a mixture of Immortal runes amongst them, although they were barely less than 0.1 percent of the total number of runes, he knew that Pamela was more talented than him when it came to runes.
’A rune sage. That class when paired with infinite energy is truly something else... But I wonder what would happen if it was paired with my talent of Omniscience.’
’Having so many Stars of Consciousness would enable her to process runes at a much faster rate than what she’s currently capable of right now.’
Clap!
A lightning bolt fell from the crown of the three, and this time around, it was stronger than the previous one.
Because they were much closer to the top of the world tree, the supression the Book of Death had on it had reduced.
Corey’s eyes widened, and he attempted to dodge it, but he knew that he would only be able to dodge it by a hair’s breadth.
’This is bad.’
Corey’s body swayed to the side, and just as his eyes was filled with the bright light of the world tree’s lightning, the lightning curved and bent, dodging both him and Pamela by a mile away.
Corey blinked in surprise despite him running, and he turned and looked at Pamela.
"Don’t look at me and keep on running. Manipulating the lightning energy is not something I can do forever, especially since it’ll only get stronger.
Corey looked up, and a solemn expression appeared on his face when he saw that the world tree was about to attack them again.
Two lightning bolts fell this time around, and Corey could only put his faith in Pamela to survive the attack.
And to his relief and surprise, she did not let him down. In fact, what she did surprised him once again.
The two lightning bolts fell directly into her hands like a nail being attracted to magnet, and although she was forced to skid back by over a hundred meters, she held the lightning bolts tightly.
Burns that healed and reappeared at the same time occurred on her arms, and Corey glanced at her with slight concern and also confusion.
Couldn’t she have done what she did with the previous lightning bolt?
"Go! I’ll join you!"
She shouted while holding the two lightning bolts like a lightning war goddess, and Corey did not ask any other question or say anything.
He continued running, and then two lightning bolts fell from the crown of the world tree.
Due to the short distance between him and the crown of the world tree, the lightning bolts appeared in front of him just as he blinked.
And for a moment, he thought he was going to die.
The power behind the lightning bolt was enough to kill him ten times over, and just as he was about to bring out the Gravenheart Armor he got as a reward for defeating Death, Pamela appeared right in front of him.
"Ahh!"
She shouted as she swung the lightning bolts which now looked like glass in her hand.
The glass-like lightning bolts slammed into the world tree’s lightning bolts, and the two lightning bolts were flung back at the crown of the world tree.
Boom!
A devastating explosion shook the world tree itself, and some branches of the world tree fell on the ground.
This finally caught the attention of Anton and the two Tier 6s, and a surprised light flashed in their eyes when they saw where Corey and Pamela were.
"What are they doing?" Anton asked while genuinely tilting his head with a baffled expression.
"We don’t know. But we should stop them." The Tier 6 Mage said.
"Stop them? Why? What can they do? They’re merely mortals in my eyes." Anton looked at the Tier 6 mage with disdain and indifference.
He then looked at Syrelle and Thalos who were fighting with varying injuries.
"My main attention is on my cousins. Those mortals are not worth my time."
The Tier 6 mage and the Tier 6 priest looked at each other, and they both shrugged. They also did not believe that Corey and Pamela could achieve anything with their power levels.
Meanwhile, Pamela shouted at Corey after sending back two attacks that were akin to a casual attack from a Tier 7.
"Are we close enough?!"
Corey nodded. "Yes."
