Chapter 40: Brewing Troubles... The Calm Before The Storm...
After careful analysis, Kranos realized two crucial things. From his previous encounter, he already suspected that the creature had a way to observe everything that occurred within the city. If that were true, then it must also possess the ability to temporarily suppress the Gu worms’ effects.
Of course, the idea that the subordinates themselves could suppress the Gu worms crossed his mind. But on further thought, why would the creature allow such a dangerous loophole? If its subordinates could suppress the Gu worms freely, they might easily escape its control. After thoroughly analyzing the situation, Kranos calmed his thoughts and decided to rest. Despite knowing how dangerous the city was, his child’s body couldn’t take any more stress. Even though he was a reincarnated old man, his physical and mental stamina were still bound by the limits of a child.
He had barely slept for weeks, and the exhaustion had taken its toll.
...
The next day passed uneventfully. Kranos knew a war was coming. Since there was nothing he could do to stop it at the moment, he chose to focus on cultivating. He considered asking Ju Ming for some resources but decided against it. The Safe Haven had likely endured for so long thanks to its accumulated resources—he didn’t want to place more burden on them.
Even though the chaotic environment made it difficult to absorb mana, Kranos purified what he could and continued cultivating diligently. He had a guess that the creature wasn’t from this world so he didn’t want to expose too much of his time cultivation and abilities.
Like that, day after day passed. Kranos was now in the ninth stage of foundation establishment, and almost four months had gone by. In this period of time, kranos had been cultivating, reading books, and living quite carefree, but his heart had been tense because the city was calm... too calm.
Aside from a few corrupted individuals that had been exposed and executed, there had been no signs of conflict. But Kranos knew this was merely the calm before the storm—and that knowledge made him deeply anxious. Taking a deep breath, he stared out the window. The city bustled with life under a purplish sky. Evening was approaching.
If it wasn’t for the fact that these purple suns signify something terrifying, they would have looked... beautiful? Kranos watched silently. People were smiling, working, and living normal lives; they didn’t have to worry about being killed. kranos honestly wished the whole world could be as peaceful, but he knew it was a pipe dream. When humans decide to reach the level of gods, why won’t the gods punish them in different ways?
While kranos was lost in thought, just then, a loud heartbeat echoed through the city. Kranos’s eyes widened. "It’s here..." he muttered in disbelief, the war was finally here! He immediately stood up with a solemn expression, even though he hadn’t seen it yet, he knew his worries weren’t unfounded.
Along with the heartbeat came sounds of countless creatures marching forward. kranos even wondered for a moment if this city could survive this... He wanted to break through to the golden core realm before the battle but he didn’t expect it to start so abruptly. Fortunately, i have some means to protect myself now, kranos muttered inwardly while rushing out of his house.
