Alexis fought the urge to wipe the nervous sweat from her hand on her dress as the last few of the guests came to give their blessings to the union.
She had been torn between wanting to murder her brothers for springing this wedding on them, and thanking them for not giving her time to second guess and doubt herself ever since she took her place on the altar.
Dominic’s wandering fingers against her backside were making it hard to focus on anything, and if it wasn’t for the fact that her expressions were hidden behind the wedding mask that she was wearing, she was certain that it would have proven impossible to keep herself together.
Behind the mask, nobody could see her feelings, her fear or her excitement.
But none of the Nobles would have shamed her for showing emotions at her own wedding. What she was more concerned about was that someone might notice the constant state of arousal that his presence had been keeping her in all day today.
Standing here on the wedding altar, there were no innocent touches. No casual resting her head on the shoulder of her most trusted advisor. All she could think of were the strong arms of a dragonkin blacksmith and that damnable smile on his lips.
The way that he promised to eat her, as if there was nothing else in his world but his desire for her, and the pure confidence to show off his claim to a room full of Nobles when she knew full well that he wouldn’t hesitate to kill half of them on any other day.
Getting married in the Dagos Capital was a bit of an ironic twist, she had to admit.
A squeeze of Dominic’s hand sent a jolt of arousal straight to her core, and Alexis looked up, ready to curse at her new husband.
"That is the last of them. Wife, will you step toward me?" Dominic asked.
Step toward him?
Alexis took one hesitant step, and Dominic’s arm swept behind her legs as he plucked her from her feet.
