Chapter 50: Weapon Distribution
They were almost out of weapons to distribute when a shout from the line in front of them caught everyone’s attention.
The Ogre that had just reached the line had activated some sort of magic, and his two-handed blade was glowing with black energy as he hacked at the soldiers.
The blade was slicing through shields, pushing back the defenders, and about to cause a breach in the lines that dozens of Goblins were waiting to exploit.
"Let’s go. I will distract it with spells, but they won’t do much to an Ogre." Dominic volunteered as he pulled the empty cart to a stop and hopped to the ground.
"You’re a scrappy sort, are you? Alright, let’s go." The Sergeant laughed as he pulled an Uncommon Grade broadsword and shield from his inventory item.
The oversized Ogre seemed to notice their intentions and gestured in their direction. Two nearby Ogres suddenly stopped fighting a defensive battle against the guards and shoved their opponents to the ground to charge at Dominic and the Sergeant, while Goblins behind them piled on the downed soldiers.
"We should have kept a couple of spears." Dominic joked as his next Arcane Blast dissipated harmlessly on an ogre’s face.
"Just watch, I’ll show you how the Guard deals with Ogres." He replied.
The Sergeant charged forward under the club of the incoming Ogre, and cut a shallow gash all the way across its stomach before side stepping and stabbing into its ribs.
Unfortunately, the blade didn’t cut deep enough to hit organs, but it did put him on the far side of the Ogre so that the monsters couldn’t both attack him at the same time.
The reserves from the back lines of the guard formation, soldiers who were catching their breath or recovering from injuries, ran over to join the battle and fill the gap that the Ogres had left in their defences, while Dominic momentarily blinded the other Ogre with [Arcane Blast] and moved back out of its line of sight.
