Book 6: Chapter 99: Shattered
The fireworks lit up Gerald’s sour face.
“Damn it.”
He clutched his forehead, realizing a fatal flaw in Lilith, who was already totally under his control—the ancient runes were simply too old!
He had cast these runes on this highly suitable soul when he first found it nine million years ago. Out of fear of Regalis, he had never maintained or updated them.
Although they still functioned, the Lilith he controlled now behaved with robotic simplicity.
She would attack or defend when commanded. But more complex orders would stump her, because she was not a smart puppet.
“Never mind. There’s no time to rework the runes now. I’ll use her as best as I can.” Gerald’s hostile eyes locked onto the figure attacking relentlessly like a violent storm.
He let out a cold chuckle. “You truly never cease to surprise, Regalis. But how long can you keep this up? Feeding the black flame to delay its advance is no different than quenching thirst with poison. It’ll indeed cause a brief delay, but haven’t you noticed that it has grown stronger?”
“How much longer can you last? Once it consumes everything, that’ll be the end of you!”
Regalis remained silent as though she hadn’t heard a word. Her golden eyes were fixed on the black crystal before her.
She struck at the indestructible substance again and again, tirelessly as if she were a machine.
Every blow came at full force, honed through countless battles. Even deity lords would hesitate to face such punches head-on.
