Chapter 122: Kane’s Identity Was Revealed
The bodyguards quickly approached Steve, yanking Steve to his feet and dragging him toward the door.
Steve was so terrified that he planted his plump body on the ground, refusing to move. He grabbed the door frame with one hand, clinging for support. The force of the slamming door nearly knocked him over.
"Mr. Wright, I swear! I've told you everything I know! That's the truth! I'm not lying!" he begged desperately.
Ashton didn't even glance at him. The bodyguards kept dragging him over.
At this hour, the nightclub was empty. Steve's panicked wails echoed down the silent hallways.
When he saw the bodyguards pulling him toward the elevator, his last bit of resistance crumbled.
"Kate... Kate fell off the cliff!" he blurted out. "I swear I had nothing to do with it! The rope wasn't secure enough, and she fell!"
"You're saying Kate Bently is dead?" Ashton asked, narrowing his eyes as he studied Steve's face.
"She was hanging on the high cliff earlier when I did that prank! Then, she fell down. I doubt she survived!" Steve insisted. "It's not that I didn't want to save her, but I can't swim, and the cliff was too steep... Even if she were Helen of Troy, there was nothing I could've done, right?" He felt pleased with his quick thinking and kept up the act with a straight face.
Ashton's expression remained unreadable. Then, he gave the order. "Send him to the police station."
"What?! Mr. Wright, I told you everything I know! Why are you sending me to the police? Look at me—I'm already a mess! Please, let me go!" Steve wailed, dropping to his knees and sobbing.
