Chapter 245: The Loathsome Life of Lua (3)
"We can't go back like this."
Faced with their resolute refusal and vigilance, we had no choice but to return to the ship. The mermaids didn't seem to have the strength to chase us away, but they didn't seem to welcome us anymore either. However, just as Eve said, we couldn't go back like this. This was an even more important issue because my wife was a mermaid. I spoke in a low voice.
"We need to insist that the culprit behind this incident is the lamia. That she framed the mermaids because they got in her way. Unless we do that, there's no way public opinion about the mermaids will turn around right now."
Without this, the mermaids had no way to recover. If we just went back now, the next time would be a full-scale war between the mermaids and humans. Whether I brought back the lamia's head or did something else, I had to bring evidence that someone other than the mermaids was the culprit. Cellu spoke.
"If that lamia really wants to protect the mermaids, wouldn't there be room for negotiation?"
At Cellu's words, I looked at the entrance to the cave where the lamia was undoubtedly hiding. In fact, considering Lua's actions in the original game, her current behavior was a bit difficult to understand. Saving the mermaids wouldn't resurrect the Demon King, and there was no benefit for her to be holed up on that island. Cellu spoke.
"Seeing as she's going this far, there might be room for compromise."
"Cellu. So, you mean you want that lamia to sacrifice herself."
Cellu nodded her head calmly at my words. Surprisingly, she did not mourn the sacrifice. The expressions coming from Cellu's mouth sounded as if she were explaining a predestined event.
