Frostbound

Chapter 318 - Flame Falls

Rachel

Flame Falls

Rachel stood staring out the window of the Citadel and felt the radiant heat from the treasure flow through her channels. The mana in the air was nearly entirely Fire mana and it felt oh-so refreshing compared to the smothering cold of the North.

Heat suffused the room and wrapped around her like a warm blanket. It reminded her of times when she used to sit around the fire when she was just a young girl.

Ooph, I haven't thought of those times in... decades.

There were times when Rachel forgot just how old she was. It used to be a constant reminder in her daily life: knees that would occasionally ache, a back that got sore much easier than it used to.

Now, she felt like she did when she was in college!

She looked like it too. She wasn't sure which part of the essence strengthening took care of wrinkles and age spots, but she was all for it. Her husband looked revitalized as well, but he managed to keep the older charm look he had grown into over the years. Brayden didn't have as many stat points as she did, but he still looked revitalized. Not that they were that old to begin with. Comfortably middle aged, if she had to name it.

Heat and warmth flooded her body and she wasn't even in the same room as the Eternal Flame, not even on the same floor, but still close enough to feel the residual effects the Flame gave off. Rachel remembered the descriptions Abigail and the others who spent time next to the River Heart had said of what it felt like, and only now she could understand.

A primal yearning that was hard to ignore.

The window showed the city in all its glory and she gazed out over all the changes. Glass everywhere, a stark difference to the stone and wood of Frostheim. This much glass was just asking for frostbite and risking hypothermia. Here, next to the Eternal Flame, the Winters were blunted by the mana it gave off.

The city still saw snow, and a lot of it from being near the Lakes, but it lacked the debilitating grip of a Northern Winter. The snow also wasn't dealt with in the same way. A city of Fire Mages had perks and dealing with snow accumulation was just one of them.
