Chapter 381 - Chapter 381 Chapter 381 Repentance
Chapter 381: Chapter 381 Repentance Chapter 381: Chapter 381 Repentance “I won’t see them,” Zhou Kui shuddered and immediately refused, “No matter who it is, I don’t want to see them. I want to go back to the detention room, I want to go back now.”
“No need to rush,” Zhong Niangyao shook her head, the smile on her lips looking sinister, “You haven’t even seen her yet, how do you know you don’t want to see her? Besides, you might not want to see her, but she wants to see you very much. She has a lot of questions to ask you, to ask you why you sank her to the bottom of the water. To ask you, as a father, how could you be so cruel as to kill your own daughter.”
As Zhong Niangyao spoke each word, Zhou Kui’s complexion changed drastically; when he looked at Zhong Niangyao, it was as if he’d seen some ghostly apparition, “You… you… who exactly are you?”
“Who I am isn’t important.”
Zhong Niangyao took out a piece of White Jade from her pocket, crystal clear and obviously valuable.
If it were any normal day, seeing such a fine item would have drawn Zhou Kui’s gaze for a longer look. But today, as he looked at the piece of White Jade, a feeling of panic and fear surged from the depths of his heart, as though it were something truly terrifying.
Especially with Niangyao’s words fresh in his mind, his fear intensified.
With the appearance of that piece of White Jade, the lights in the interrogation room began to flicker, dimming and brightening in turns. The temperature around seemed to drop off a cliff, surrounding him with a cold chill.
Zhou Kui was handcuffed to the interrogation chair; even if he wanted to escape, he could not.
He just felt a coldness throughout his body as if he were in an ice cellar, his heart pounding so fiercely it seemed it might leap out of his chest at any moment.
Zhong Niangyao threw a piece of talisman paper directly at Zhou Kui’s face.
The talisman paper ignited mid-air and flew straight towards him.
Seeing the flames coming towards him, Zhou Kui yelled out, closing his eyes instinctively, bracing for the searing burn.
After a long while, feeling nothing, he slowly dared to open his eyes. Only when he saw the flames had disappeared did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
But the moment he relaxed, he witnessed a scene of utter terror, making him wish he had faced the flames rather than what was before him now.
Initially, there had only been himself and the couple across him in the interrogation room. But now, in front of the girl, there appeared a small, shadowy figure.
It was a pale-faced little girl, soaking wet, droplets of water continuously falling from her clothes to form a puddle on the floor.
The familiar face of the little girl was one he could never forget in his life. Because she was no one else but his own daughter, Qiaoqiao, the daughter he had murdered.
“Daddy!” Qiaoqiao gave Zhou Kui a sinister smile, her voice eerily chilling, “I’m so cold! I’m really cold, it’s too cold under the water. Why did you throw me down there?”
“Ah–” A shrill scream immediately filled the entire interrogation room.
Zhong Niangyao couldn’t help but frown, looking at Zhou Kui with a bit of disgust.
Even though he was a grown man, how could his screaming be so shrill! With such a large gall, daring to kill his own daughter, what was there left to fear now!
As if she hadn’t seen Zhou Kui’s terror, Qiaoqiao floated towards him, continually shouting, “Daddy, daddy.”
To Zhou Kui, those calls harbored no warmth; they were filled with horror, giving him a chilling sensation.
In just a moment, Qiaoqiao had already reached him. Her little face, pale as if painted white, bore a sinister smile, terrifying enough to frighten even the bravest of souls.
And for someone like Zhou Kui, who had already committed heinous acts, he couldn’t bring himself to look at Qiaoqiao. He closed his eyes, thinking perhaps he could escape it all this way.
Since he had murdered his own daughter, it wasn’t that he hadn’t felt remorse, but thinking of his happiness, he could still manage to ignore that guilt.
However, he hadn’t expected that after his daughter’s death, he wouldn’t find his own happiness and was soon discovered by the police and thrown in jail.
He knew that this time he was truly inescapable and had accepted the likelihood that he would be shot.
But, he never imagined that he would see Qiaoqiao again, his daughter whom he had brutally killed.
He knew he was seeing a ghost, yet there was no way to avoid any of it. Qiaoqiao must have come for revenge; was he really going to die here today?
Facing one’s death and actually facing death are two different things.
Zhou Kui trembled violently, even losing control of himself, leaving a puddle of yellow liquid beneath him.
Lu Yichen watched everything indifferently, a hint of disdain flickering in his eyes after seeing Zhou Kui wet himself.
“Waste,” Zhong Niangyao scoffed. “Tell me, he was so cruel back then, even killing his own daughter. Why is he so cowardly now? Not afraid of killing a person, yet terrified of ghosts.”
“It’s because he killed someone that he’s afraid of ghosts,” Lu Yichen replied. “Those who have committed sins are often not afraid of people but ghosts.”
Zhong Niangyao nodded in strong agreement.
“Daddy, open your eyes!” Qiaoqiao’s voice carried a chill, “Why won’t you look at me? I am your daughter! Don’t you miss me?”
