Chapter 341: Chapter 341 Perfect Match Chapter 341: Chapter 341 Perfect Match “And then?” Zhong Niangyao crossed her arms and smirked, “You apologize, and I must forgive you? Who set that rule?”
“Nianyao, I am sincerely apologizing to you.” Li Jingming did not get angry; his tone remained gentle, “I was young and ignorant before, which is why I did those upsetting things. If you give me another chance–”
“You’d still act the same way.” Zhong Niangyao cut him off directly, “Li Jingming, you don’t need to put on a show here with me. I don’t have the time, nor the mood for it. You know what you’re thinking. What, Shen Yixue won’t deal with you, so you thought you’d start with me?”
Her words stripped Li Jingming of his cover.
Li Jingming’s expression grew ugly, but he still tried to maintain his smile, “Nianyao, you really misunderstand me.”
“I haven’t misunderstood you.” Zhong Niangyao raised her hand to stop him from continuing, “Li Jingming, you know what your intentions are. If you want to play a role, you should first ask whether I’m willing to accompany you in this act.”
“Li Jingming, I am no longer someone you can casually fool around with. I don’t want to get involved with your and Shen Yixue’s matters. But nothing will ever happen between us again.”
Hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, a trace of reluctance flashed in Li Jingming’s eyes, then his face took on a fond expression, “Nianyao, I know I’ve hurt you in the past. But I’ve realized now, the person who has always been the nicest to me–was only ever you. Just give me one more chance, and I will definitely make it up to you.”
After experiencing the ups and downs recently, he finally understood how cruel the world could be. He had thought that his efforts would make his grandfather and father acknowledge his capabilities, but reality had taught him a cruel lesson.
Soon he would graduate, but his father had not arranged an internship for him in the company. The two younger brothers born to his father’s official wife had already joined the company, and even his sister had started an internship there. Only he was left without any news.
His mother had hinted several times, but there was still no movement.
He finally realized it was nearly impossible to surpass his two brothers with his efforts alone, especially after they both secured marriages that matched their social status, making him feel even more powerless.
Having gone through such unfair treatment, and now experiencing rejection from Shen Yixue who had recognized her ancestry, he had a clear understanding of reality. If he wanted a place in the Lai family and in the company, his partner had to be a miss from a wealthy family who could aid him.
But due to his identity, his prospects in marriage were not smooth. So he thought of Zhong Niangyao.
He had previously looked down on Zhong Niangyao, but now he realized she was his best option. Marrying Zhong Niangyao would gain the Zhong family’s support, plus she held a vast fortune left to her by her father.
He had been trying to contact Zhong Niangyao recently, but she had blocked all of his contacts. He didn’t dare to visit her, knowing well that Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong somewhat disliked him.
He had planned to find Zhong Niangyao after the school restarted, but who would have thought he’d bump into her just wandering about today? Naturally, he didn’t want to miss this opportunity, hence his apology.
Seeing Li Jingming’s self-deemed affectionate stance, Zhong Niangyao looked as though she had seen something filthy; her face filled with disdain, “Li Jingming, this isn’t some garbage dump that’s willing to take in any trash. Stop disgusting me.”
Zhong Niangyao’s obvious repulsion deeply stung Li Jingming’s heart, but he clenched his hands by his sides, keeping his face unchanged, still showing affection, “Nianyao, I know I hurt you deeply in the past, which is why you’re reacting like this. I won’t get angry, just give me a chance.”
“Li Jingming, let me answer you very earnestly here.” Zhong Niangyao gave a cold smile and said, “I don’t like you, and I never will. What happened today is the first and last time. If next time you keep saying things that disgust me, don’t blame me for being rude.”
“I–” Li Jingming anxiously wanted to explain something but was directly interrupted by Zhong Niangyao.
“Li Jingming, I have a bad temper, and I think you might not want to know what happens if you offend me,” Zhong Niangyao sneered and continued, “I think my grandparents would be very eager to have a good talk with your grandparents if they knew about today’s events.”
Mentioning the Elder Mr. and Mrs. Lai hit a sore spot for Li Jingming.
His identity as Young Master Lai was because his mother had once saved Elder Mrs. Lai. However, this didn’t mean Elder Mrs. Lai treated him well.
In the Lai family, his grandparents were not particularly warm or welcoming towards him; they were even somewhat cold. He knew they looked down on his background, precisely his mother’s status.
Now that the two grandparents were mentioned, he couldn’t help feeling a bit fearful.
Seeing Li Jingming’s retreating demeanor, Zhong Niangyao nodded satisfactorily, “Li Jingming, remember what I’ve said. Next time you see me, just ignore me like you don’t know me. Don’t try to catch up with me on old times; we have no relationship whatsoever. If there is a next time, don’t blame me for being rude.”
