Chapter 292: Dingy Little Boat
Caleb moved closer and pressed the gun to the small swell of her belly. Amelia immediately fell silent, frozen with crippling fear. If Caleb were to shoot― no, if he were to even hit her, the baby would be in trouble.
"I see you understand what’s at stake," Caleb said. "Now let’s move, before your little band of warriors catch up. Bring her to the boat."
"What do we do with the man?" one of the thugs asked, kicking Michael Kentwood in the leg. Her father groaned in pain.
"Let him go!" Amelia cried out. "It’s me you want, not him! I’ll go with you, so let him go!"
"Very true. Such an old man deserves freedom after all this trouble," Caleb said with a nod before addressing his hire. "Toss him over the pier and let him swim with the sharks."
"No Caleb, you can’t― Dad! Dad!" Amelia screamed helplessly as two men grabbed her listless father by his arms, hauling him away. "Caleb, stop this!"
"He always wanted to swim with the fishes. I’m leaving him here for Matteo to pick up, " Caleb said sincerely. "He should have someone to remember you by since you’ll be busy as my wife. Now that that’s taken care of, it’s time to get on the boat."
The rest of the men flanked Caleb as he made his way out of the warehouse. Amelia screamed as loud as she could for help, but the man restraining her simply clasped a meaty hand over her mouth, muffling her voice immediately.
"Save your effort," Caleb chided cheerfully. "You’ll be doing a lot more screaming later when you’re with me. One of you will come with me to escort us off. The rest of you, keep an eye out for any intruders. If you manage to kill Matteo Montgomery, you will be set for life!"
