Chapter 271: Under His Nose II
"How could you say that?!" Aiden asked, astonished.
He paced back and forth in his room. For the first time in his life, this huge bedroom suddenly felt so constrictive and strangely tiny.
"Oh, quiet down, darling," Catherine said with a huff. She went to her son’s bed and sat herself down, watching as Aiden walked around like an animal stuck in a tiny zoo enclosure. "I don’t want your father overhearing this."
"You didn’t seem so worried when you were canoodling down in the living room just now!" Aiden whisper-yelled. He continued, "You definitely may know him better than I do, but that’s not saying a lot! How long have you even known him? How much have you even interacted with him before things turned this way?"
Catherine pursed her lips, one leg crossed over the other. She looked thoughtfully out of the window and allowed silence to fill the room. But for every second she didn’t answer, Aiden’s impatience grew. His eyelids twitched before he knelt down next to his mother, holding her hand.
"Are you not afraid of Dad finding out?" Aiden pressed in his mother’s silence. "Or what if things go out of hand? It may be kissing and hugging now, but what if you end up pregnant? I don’t want a sibling that’s in any bit related to Emmeline Hawthorne!"
Catherine’s eyes suddenly darted over to Aiden, causing his blood to chill to realization.
"Mom," he said, "please don’t tell me..."
Catherine suddenly stood up. In his surprise and due to her sudden action, Aiden’s hands dropped back down to his side. She straightened her clothes and made her way to the door, stepping out.
"You will not speak of this to anyone else," Catherine said. "Understood?"
"Mom, come on, you’ve got to be joking―"
