Chapter 238: Parting Gift
Kelsie gritted her teeth.
She knew she hadn’t been hallucinating when she heard the gun go off the first time― otherwise, her windows shouldn’t have given way so easily. This would be hard to explain when she inevitably sent it for maintenance, but that was the least of her worries right now.
Turning her eyes onto the road, she turned all the gears in place before speeding off into the night, soaring down the fairly empty highway at a speed that was way higher than the limit.
"Is this what you finally contacted me for?" After a while, Kelsie finally broke the silence and asked, peering at Caleb’s reflection through the rearview mirror.
He had finally placed the gun down on the backseat, his hand placed over his eyes as his head leaned back against the headrest. If it weren’t for the subtle rise and fall of his chest, Kelsie would’ve even suspected that he was dead. His injuries did seem bad enough for him to succumb to them.
Aiden Montgomery sure hadn’t held back his punches. Good. Seeing those bruises and cuts on Caleb did give Kelsie an odd sense of satisfaction. He deserved it.
Her eyes lingered on the weapon for an extra few seconds. The fact that he wasn’t holding onto it fueled her boldness and allowed her to properly say what was on her mind again.
"You’ve refused my calls and ignored my messages, only to come running to me once you’ve got the police on your tail?"
"Keep quiet, Kelsie, I am trying to sleep," Caleb mumbled, his voice hoarse.
