Chapter 197: It Could Be A Lie!
Emmeline’s words echoed throughout the hall. She did not scream, but everyone heard her loud and clear. There was a moment of brief silence as they digested her words.
Then, all hell broke loose. The hall erupted into pandemonium, as though a horde of ravenous zombies had entered the hall. Screams of shock and dismay filled the air, and people began to stand up to get a closer look at Emmeline’s supposed pregnancy.
Amelia should have spoken up to control the crowd, but her mind had fizzled at Emmeline’s words. She stared at her cousin in disbelief, then at Matteo.
"Pregnant? You must be joking!"
"I would never joke about this," Emmeline said loud enough for everyone to hear. "If I wasn’t a hundred percent sure, I would never dare to interrupt your wedding!"
"You lie! I knew it, I knew you wouldn’t miss the chance to ruin Millie’s big day!" Amelia’s father stood up and shook an angry fist in Emmeline’s direction, his face a blotchy red that Amelia was half-afraid he would suddenly suffer a stroke.
He then turned to glare at her grandfather, pointing an angry finger at his face.
"Horace Hawthorne, didn’t you say that your granddaughter would behave herself? Is this your idea of behaving? And you, Annalise, is this how you educate your daughter? By faking pregnancy scares to ruin weddings? What a homewrecker!"
The word homewrecker seemed to ring in the air, and everyone began to murmur to their fellow guests. Annalise’s face purpled in anger as she and her daughter were insulted by a country bumpkin, out of all people! If she had things her way, someone lowly Michael Kentwood would have never entered the venue.
