Chapter 172: Kept in the Dark
"Dad!"
The second Dimitri unlocked the door to his home, Amelia had already sprinted in. Her eyes scoured the space before it eventually landed on her father, sitting at the dining table with a bowl of steaming hot noodle soup in front of him. There were a few dishes that were also placed on the table, most likely the ones he claimed Dimitri had left for him.
Her eyes twitched. So much for already having dinner! Not only had he lied about his injuries, he had also lied about something as simple as having dinner.
"Amelia!" Michael Kentwood was so shocked that he dropped the fork onto the table, defaulting from the endearing nickname back to Amelia’s full name. "What are you doing here?"
Then, his good eye found Dimitri, Ronan, and Matteo standing by the door. The older man sighed.
"Did the boys tell you?"
"If they didn’t, were you planning on keeping this a secret from me?" Amelia hotly demanded. She marched her way over, bending down to examine her father’s injury, only to get swatted away.
"I’m fine, Millie. It’s not a big deal. You didn’t have to come all the way here," he said with a sigh. Turning, he tried to pivot away so as to hide his injury from her, which only further irritated Amelia.
"How did this happen, Michael?" Dimitri asked, frowning as he stepped into the house. Ronan locked the door behind them once they were all in, shaking his head as he did so.
Michael Kentwood merely glanced at his daughter, his lips pursed even tighter together than before. Amelia sighed, exasperated.
"You can’t have me not worry by keeping me in the dark," she said quietly, kneeling right beside where her father sat.
