Chapter 131: Thrown Under the Bus
"It is, isn’t it?" Amelia asked rhetorically. "That’s why I had to let you know. It’s one thing if Caleb comes to me out of his own free will. It’s a whole other matter if he gets sent away from your side because of someone you trusted."
"Amelia! Don’t talk nonsense!" Emmeline shrieked, her face paling so much she could almost be mistaken for a fellow patient, if not for her being clad head to toe in designer outfits. She immediately rushed to Kelsie’s side.
"Kelsie, don’t listen to her― she’s lying! You know how important you are to me!" Emmeline blubbered impressively, clutching Kelsie’s hand with fervent desperation. "I didn’t say anything like that! First, she shoved me to the floor, then she maligns me! She’s nothing but a scheming liar!"
"Am I, though?" Amelia cocked her head, a mockery of thoughtfulness. "Kelsie, you’re a smart woman. I think you know full well in your heart what happened."
"Amelia! Stop trying to drive a wedge between us! Kelsie and I are best friends. I would never do anything to hurt her!" Emmeline cried out, tears welling in her eyes. How dare Amelia use her words against her!
"We’re practically sisters. You’re just jealous that I have a best friend and you don’t!"
"Do you think I’m a preschooler?" Amelia retorted. "And if Kelsie is your sister, then she should be worried. I’m practically your sister, and you tried to kill me on a snowy mountain. "
"Kelsie, I might not have any goodwill towards you, but you should be careful. She was ready to throw your relationship under the bus this time around, but who knows? She might throw you under the bus next... literally," Amelia added.
A muscle twitched in Kelsie’s jaw. She couldn’t deny she had heard Emmeline’s voice floating in the corridor, and with it came the names of Caleb and Amelia. That was why she had made a beeline for Emmeline’s direction, only to see Amelia shove her to the floor.
