Defying the Rogue Alpha

Chapter 78: Ceremony

The days leading up to the ceremony were a whirlwind of ancient rituals, whispered blessings, and a seemingly endless list of customs that Ava hadn’t even known existed. Lanaya had practically locked her away in one of the secluded rooms in the fortress, along with a handful of the pack’s most revered women.

Ava was subjected to purification baths with herbs that smelled both floral and alarmingly bitter, as the women scrubbed her skin raw, chanting softly under their breath. She had to drink some weirdly thick concoction that was supposed to "open her spirit" to the Moon Goddess. And worst of all, she wasn’t allowed to see Lucas.

At first, she thought she could handle it. After all, it was just a few days. But by the second night, she found herself pacing, fidgeting, and staring longingly at the door.

"This is ridiculous," she muttered after the fourth sleepless night.

Lanaya arched a brow. "Patience, child. The separation strengthens the bond."

Ava crossed her arms. "What bond? Lucas and I have already..."

The old woman smacked her lightly on the arm. "This is different. This is sacred. A union under the moon cannot be rushed."

Ava groaned, earning an amused chuckle from the women. But she endured. Because no matter how much she complained, she wanted this to be perfect.

And finally, after what felt like forever, the day arrived.

The ceremony was held just outside the fortress, under the vast open sky, with the Silver Pack gathered in full force.

Ava stood at the entrance, her heart hammering wildly as she took in the sight. The aisle was lined with glowing lanterns, and at the end of it stood Lucas waiting for her.
