Chapter 338: Best Christmas
Tony knelt before Luca, his heart in his throat as he took in the sight of his son. The boy stared at him, his little face scrunching up in curiosity, trying to understand the weight of the moment. Tony felt a flood of emotions—relief, fear, hope, and guilt—all crashing together as he waited for Luca’s response. His mind swirled with thoughts: Would Luca accept him? Would Olivia allow him to truly be a part of their lives?
Luca blinked at Tony, his big eyes reflecting a mix of confusion and wonder. "You’re... my dad?" His voice was soft, hesitant, and innocent.
Tony swallowed hard and nodded, his voice thick with emotion. "Yeah, buddy. I’m your dad." He forced himself to stay still, waiting for Luca to process what that meant. He didn’t want to scare him, didn’t want to overwhelm him. All he wanted was to be present for this moment, one he had both longed for and feared for so long.
Luca tilted his head, his small lips pressing together in thought. Then, almost instinctively, he turned to look at Olivia, his mother—the person he trusted the most in the world. "Is it true, Mommy?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Olivia, who had been watching this unfold with tears brimming in her eyes, nodded, her throat tight. "Yes, sweetheart. It’s true," she said gently, brushing a hand over Luca’s dark curls. "This is your daddy."
Luca’s eyes flickered back to Tony, and a small, tentative smile crept onto his face. "My daddy..." he repeated, as if testing out the words, getting used to them. Then, to Tony’s complete astonishment, Luca took a tiny step forward, closing the distance between them.
Tony’s heart skipped a beat as Luca stood just inches from him, looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes. "Can I hug you?" Luca asked softly.
For a moment, Tony couldn’t speak. His breath caught in his throat, and all he could do was nod, tears spilling over as he opened his arms. "Yeah, buddy. Of course, you can," he managed to say, his voice breaking with emotion.
Luca didn’t hesitate. He moved into Tony’s embrace, his small arms wrapping around Tony’s neck in a way that was both gentle and firm. The contact was immediate, and Tony felt the flood of emotions he had been holding back come crashing down all at once. He held his son close, his arms trembling slightly as he hugged him for the first time.
"Hey, little man," Tony whispered into Luca’s hair, pressing his cheek against the top of his son’s head. He felt Luca’s little body relax against him, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Tony felt a deep, indescribable sense of peace. It was as if everything had aligned in this one moment, as if all the uncertainty and heartache he’d carried for years had suddenly melted away in the warmth of Luca’s embrace.
Olivia wiped at her eyes, her heart swelling at the sight of Tony and Luca together. It wasn’t an easy road they had taken to get here, but seeing them like this—father and son, finally united—it was all worth it. She had been afraid for so long, afraid of how things might turn out, but now, watching them together, she knew this was the right thing to do.
Abby stood a few feet away, her own emotions stirred as she witnessed the reunion. She glanced at Remo, who stood beside her, his hand gently resting on her back. He gave her a soft smile, his eyes reflecting the shared understanding between them. They had their own journey, their own struggles to work through, but seeing Tony take this first step gave Abby hope. Hope that they could all find peace, in time.
