Chapter 330: Can I be a mom?
The quiet hum of the car engine filled the silence as Remo and Abby made their way back home. The warmth of the car’s heater kept the biting winter air at bay, but the atmosphere inside the vehicle was thick with unsaid words. Abby sat quietly in the passenger seat, her hands resting on her lap as she stared out the window, watching the snowflakes gently fall onto the windshield. The lights from passing cars and streetlamps cast soft glows across her face, but her expression was unreadable.
Remo kept his eyes on the road, glancing over at Abby every now and then. He could sense her internal struggle, the whirl of emotions she wasn’t voicing. He knew today had been a lot for her—seeing Lily after all the bitterness, the surprise of her pregnancy, and the emotional reunion that had followed. It was a lot to process, even for Abby, who had been through more than most people could imagine.
After what felt like an eternity, Remo broke the silence.
"How are you doing?" His voice was soft but steady, his eyes flicking toward her briefly before returning to the road.
Abby turned her head to look at him, a small smile tugging at her lips. It didn’t quite reach her eyes, but it was there, nonetheless. "I’m fine," she said, her voice just above a whisper.
Remo could tell she was holding something back, but he didn’t push. He nodded, his grip tightening slightly on the steering wheel as he considered his next words. The weight of everything that had transpired over the last few months—Abby’s recovery, the revelations about Margaret and Dominic, and the dangerous plot that had nearly cost them everything—still lingered between them.
After a few moments, he cleared his throat, deciding it was time to tell her.
"I took care of it," he said, his voice more serious now. "Martha and Dominic... they won’t be causing any more problems."
Abby’s head snapped up, her eyes widening slightly in surprise. She hadn’t expected Remo to mention them—especially not so casually, as if he were discussing a business deal. She stared at him for a moment, unsure of what to say. But then again, she knew who she had married. Remo wasn’t just her husband; he was a mafia boss—a man who dealt with threats swiftly and without hesitation.
