The nurse, a woman with cold, calculating eyes that belied the warm professionalism she had perfected, slipped into the breakroom. Her shift was nearly over, but there was one last thing she had to take care of. She glanced around, ensuring no one was nearby, before pulling out her phone.
Her fingers moved swiftly across the screen as she typed out a message:
It’s done.
She waited, the tension in the air thick as she sat in the small, sterile room, listening for the faint hum of her phone. Within moments, it buzzed, a new message lighting up the screen.
Good. You’ll receive the payment soon. Are you sure she won’t suspect anything?
The nurse’s lips curled into a small, satisfied smile as she quickly replied.
She’ll start losing her mind soon. The dosage will take time, but by the time she realizes something’s wrong, it’ll be too late.
She put her phone back into her pocket just as one of the other nurses entered the room, oblivious to the exchange that had just taken place. With a casual nod, the nurse returned to her duties, her face neutral as though nothing was out of the ordinary.
